Layer of the eco nomics department was the guest speaker at the January meeting of the College Women’s Social club last week in the Memorial Student Center. Layer spoke on “Living Stan dards in Soviet Russia,” and made comparisons between the living conditions of the various classes in Russia. The idea of jequality has been Vet Wives Elect Mrs. Green Mrs. DaLee Green took of fice as the new president of the American Veterinary Medical Association Student Wives auxilary at its last meeting. Other officers elected at the meeting were Mrs. Margaret Cline, president elect; Mrs. Nona Dan cer, vice-president; Mrs. Jo Rene Helms, recording secretary; Mrs. Jean Huff, treasurer; Mrs. Doro thy Criswell, parliamentarian; Mrs. Ruth Trimmier, reporter; and Mrs. Sandra Coleman, correspond ing secretary. Mrs. Laura Holt was elected to represent the chapter at the Fort Worth meeting of the AVMA and auxiliai’y. Dr. Nena Harris, pediatrician, spoke to the group about child safety in the home and elsewhere. Mrs. Madelyn Willmann introduc ed Dr. Harris. Hostesses for the meeting were committees from the freshman, sophomore, junior and. senior class wives. Refreshments were served from a white-clothed table centered with a pastel pink and white flower ar rangement. Cherry sherbert, punch, and cookies were served. Faculty wives of the veterinary department were guests of the chapter. abandoned, he said. Layer said the housing condi tions have improved, although by Western standards living conditions in Russia ai-e very poor. He was presented by Mrs. C. W. Simmons, program chairman. Mrs. Walter H. Delaplane, club president, presided at a business meeting befpre the program. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. R. E. Patterson, chairman, and Mesdames W. E. Briles, Fred J. Benson, George J. Mountney, Doi’a R. Bai’nes, J. M. Atkins, E. L. Williams, E. D. Parnell, U. R. Hor sley, V. H. Little and E. L. Har rington. Mesdames J. E. Adams, Fred Jones, E. L. Allen and J. G. Pot ter presided at the coffee services. The centerpiece for the tea table was an arrangement of yellow aca cia and eucalyptus in a driftwood container of black walnut, and yel low tapers in brass candlesticks. Aggies Wives Meet Tonight The Aggie Wives Bridge club will hold its final meeting of the semester tonight at 7:30 in the Memorial Student Center. Hostesses for the meeting will be Mrs. Teenye Price and Mrs. Pat Henderson for the regulars, Mrs. Francis Smith and Mrs. Kathy Neinast for the interme diates, and Mrs. Helen Scott and Mrs. Erma Ingram for the be ginners. The prizes were won by Mrs. Joy Jones, high, and Mrs. Bar bara Jones, second high, in the regular group. The intermediate winners were Mrs. Madie Coop er, high, and Mrs. Peggy Hild reth, second high. Business Women’s Club Hears Polio Vacine Talk Dr. Nena Harris, chairman of the Health and Safety committee of the College Station Business and Professional Women’s club, was in charge of the club’s Jamiary meet ing Tuesday. She showed films on the care and rehabilitation of polio patients, and then answered questions on polio. “It is hoped that the new salk vaccine will prove more beneficial than gamma globulin, and by this summer doctors should be able to tell just how much better it is and what results can be obtained from it,” she said. Attorney lola Barron, a member of the club, read a resolution of congratulations to be sent to Sher iff J. W. Hamilton on the appoint ment of Mrs. Victoria Bishop as deputy sheriff of Brazos county. New members voted into the club were Mrs. Sybil Barton, Mrs. Mar jorie Banks, Mrs. H. A. McLemore, Mrs. Anna Louis Griffin, Mrs. Dan Hudson, and Mrs. Ruth Woods. Visitors for the meeting were Mrs. W. H. Miller and Mrs. Sim Wright. Mrs. H. S. Creswell, president, presided at the meeting, which was held at the Oaks in Bryan. Trip Discussed By Mrs. Adriance Mrs. G. W. Adriance was the guest speaker of the Newcomers club at their last meeting. Mrs. Adriance showed slides on her travels in England, Fi’ance, Switzerland and Italy. For several summers she has conducted tours in these countries. She was asked to have tea with the ex-queen Ruma nia and her son King Micheal, while in Florence, Italy, she said. The refreshment table was dec orated with white tapers and ori ental candles. The centerpiece was a Chinese red bowl filled with white carnations. Husbands Prepare Meal For Wives “Husband’s Choice” was the theme of the dinner given by the husbands of the Foods group of the A&M Social club at the Janu ary meeting of the group in the A&M Consolidated school cafete ria last Saturday. The committee of husbands in charge, with their wives, had a plain home-cooked meal featuring baked ham, scalloped potatoes, Arkansas salad, spiced apricots, home-made rolls, apple pie and cof fee, on the menu. The committee for the evening consisted of A. C. Baker and R. R. Lyle, co-chairmen with Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Lyle; Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Denison, Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Allen , Mr. and Mrs. R. E.
