Following their 93-69 loss to SMU in Dallas Tuesday night, Ag Pistol Team To Fire In SA The A&M pistol team will go to San Antonio for the NRA pistol meet Feb. 12-13, according to Sgt. R. G. Cox. pistol instructor. Cox said that starting this week targets and scores of the team will be sent weekly to the U. S. Revolver association. A&M is one of 12 schools taking part in this competition. The team is planning to go to the National Mid-Winter Pistol match in Tampa, Florida, March 8-12. Frank Norvell is high scorer. Joe Martinez, Toby Chandler, James Arledge and Kenneth Snipes are also leading scorers. the Cadets got the day off yes terday, coach John Floyd and John DeWitt, his assistant, scout ing the U of H-Oklahoma City university game last night. The Fish, sporting a 4-1 rec ord, also have a date Saturday night, meeting the Cougar fresh men in a prelim to the varsity meeting. Tuesday night’s 89-80 win over Tyler junior college boosted the Fish scoring average to 74.4 per game. Forward Bill Brophy’s 24 points against the Ponies gave him the varsity scoring lead over John Fortenberry. Brophy now has 184 points, a 15.3 average, and leads in rebounds with 99. Fortenberry has 176 points and a 14.6 average. Sophomores George Mehaffey and Roger Harvey are third and fourth in team scoring, with 106 and 91 points, respectively. Har vey, though he has only a 7.6 average, has developed into a fine defensive player. He held the veteran Art Barnes to two field goals in the SMU game. Razorback Jerald Bob Williams Leads 13-0 Squadron 1 Win Squadron 1 staved off a last minute thi'eat to eke out a 7-6 victory over A athletics in upper classmen intramural football yes terday. Bob William's was the big gun for the victors, tossing one touchdown pass and passing over the extra point. A athletics was on the one-yard- line when the game ended. In other games, A quartermaster corps won over squadron 18, 14-13; and squadron 3 won over C anti aircraft artillei’y, 12-8. Jim Boyer bucketed 13 points to lead D field artillery to a 22-17 victory over squadron 9. In other games, Ken Royar scor ed 12 points to give White band a. 20-19 victory over squadron 10; Wayne Lybecler dumped in 11 points to give B field artillery a 21-18 victory over squadron 3; Weldon Newton sank 12 points to beat squadron 4, 32-24; and Orlan Coronett managed 12 points to pace A chemical corps to victory over A infantry, 27-13. In upperclassmen horseshoes, A field artillery beat C armor, 3-0; B infantry beat squadron 20, 3-1; B engineei’s beat D field artillery, 2-1; and squadron 11 beat squadron 9, 2-1. 10-Man Tiger Squad To Enter Tournament Coach Jim Bevans takes a 10-man A&M Consolidated basketball squad to Navasota tomorrow for the 10 - team Navasota invitational tourna ment. The Tigei's meet Snook, one of the tourney favorites, at 2 ' p.m. Friday in their first-round g-ame. If they win, they take the coui't again at 2 p.m. Saturday. If they lose, Consolidated plays at 11:30 a.m. Last season’s district 25-A champions lost to Klein in the fin als. • Led by forwards Norman Floeck and Manuel Garcia, the team’s leading scorei’s, the Tigers seek to impi’ove their 7-5 season record. Floeck has scored 157 points for a 13.1 average, Garcia has 143, an 11.9 average. In addition to Floeck and Garcia, Bevans will take J. B. Carroll, Tra vis Englebrecht and Jerry Oden, the rest of the starting five, and reserves Jon Ray Perryman, Win fred Pardue, Bobby Potts, Don Pat ton and Dick Hickman. The shortest punt in the history of the National Football League is four yards. It was kicked by Joe Muha of the Eagles against the Cardinals on Dec. 28, 1947. All three are among the best guards in the conference. The Aggies don’t play another home game until Jan. 20, when the varsity meets LSU and the Fish take on Allen academy. After the Houston game, A&M plays Baylor in Waco Tuesday night in a varsity-freshman double header. The LSU game will be the fifth in 12 days for the varsity. Leading the Fish in scoring and rebounding is Fritzie Conn- ley, with 87 points and 59 re bounds. Bryan Sutherlin has scored 83 points, good for a 36.6 average compared to Connley’s 17.4.
