Conservation Board, will speak on the Wednesday afternoon ses sion of the annual Agents’ Confer ence. • Mr. Marshall, whose outstanding work on the Soil Conservation Board makes him a topmost au thority in this field, will speak on “Some of Today’s Challenges in Soil Conservation.” Having served the public in many capacities although never holding public office, Mr. Marshal! exem plifies the good, well-rounded citi zen of today who takes an interest in civic affairs and projects that interest into positive action with out seeking or expecting public acknowledgment of his accomplish ments. Mr. Marshall is an. unusual man not only from the standpoint of his participation in civic affairs, bur u ajsg from the., standpoint of liaving a'fine family of eight boys —alf . graduates of the Texas A.& M. Dildine Dildine A panel discussion on the Na tional 4-H Foundation before the annua 1 Extension Conference Fri day morning will be led by Dr. Glenn C. Dildine, coordinator of the research project on develop mental needs and training in human relations for the Founda tion. His professional background in cludes college teaching, administra tion and research in biology and human development, and in-service' consultant work with schools and consultant groups in the field of human relations. He came to the Foundation in September 1952 from the University of Maryland where he had‘been, professor in the Institute of Child jStudy’. . He was connected with several Extension Service projects in 1951, .1952 and 1953. Dr., Dildine i was born in China, the son of American educational missionaries. He grew up there, returning to . the United States after his freshman year in College. Hid bachelor^is from DePauw Uni versity and his master and doctor ate from Northwestern Uhiversity. Mrs. Ercel S. Eppright E pprigfit Mrs. Ercel S. Eppright, head of the Foods and Nutrition Depart ment of Iowa State College, will discuss accomplishments through good nutrition at the Wednesday forenoon session of the home eco nomics section of the annual Ex tension Conference. A native of Illinois; Mrs. Epp right received her bachelor in ed ucation and home economics at the University of Missouri, a master in food and nutrition at the Uni versity of Texas and her doctorate in psysologiCal chemistry from Yale University., She has taught in the public schools of Missouri and Kansas, was instructor at the University of Texas, and head of the Home Economics Department of Texas State College for Women before assuming her present po sition in Iowa in 19.45. Her husband, Frank 0. Epp right, deceased, was a member of the faculty for Texas State Col lege for Woinen. Her son, James, commercial sales manager for the central district, Texas Power and Light Company at Waco, is a for mer student of Texas A. and M. College and a graduate of North Texas State College. Dr. Gallup is assistant chief of the Division of Field Studies: and Training, in the 'Washington office of the Extension Service. She holds a bachelor in home economics from low'd State College, and a master in education and a doctorate in adult education from George Washington University. (Tony) Lumpkin, direc tor of family relations for the' First Methodist Church of Hous ton, will be': guest speaker for the home economics section of the an nual Extension Conference. As consultant for the Hogg Foundation of the University of Texas, Mr. Lumpkin will appear on the Monday and Tuesday after noon programs to discuss counsel ing and learning in groups. ’ The guest speaker is active in the field of educational psychology and is interested in the applica tion of principles of psychology, mental health and religion to per sonal and group living. He be came concerned over the great un met need " for personal counseling among church people while serving on the staff of the University Baptist Church at Austin in 1947. He entered the University of Tex as in 1950 to complete special training in this field. MjV Lumpkin has taught in the high schools of Texas, and headed the speech and dramatic contests for the Intersehqlastic League of the University. He trained at the Columbia Broadcasting System on a Rockefeller Foundatibn Fellow ship and after completing Iris re quirements for his master at the University of Iowa, became first director of Radio House at the Un iversity of Texas. Jules Labarthe, Jr. Labarthe The role of the consumer in the market will be given the home' economics , section of the annual Extension Conference Tuesday afternoon by Dr. Jules Labarthe, Jr. Dr. Labarthe has been senior fel low' on the commodity standards fellowship in the Mellon Institute of Industrial Research of the Uni versity of Pittsburgh for the past 21 years. Major problems on w'hich the fel lowship staff has been engaged deal with the evaluation of merch andise offered to store buyers, the establishment of specificiations for staple fnerchandeis, the scientific investigation of special cases re lating to customer complaints, co operation with the employees train ing division and aiding the store maintenance departments. Dr. Labarthe w'as bom in Canada. He is a graduate in chem istry of the University of Cali fornia. His professional education in chemistry was completed at the University of Pittsburgh. ■' . Mil '•/; : i W. P. Sandford Sandford The public speaking division in the ■ communications section of the annual Extension Conference will be handled by Dr. W. P. Sandford, proTessor of business speech at St. Louis -University and head of the Sandford Sales Training Serv ice of- that city. Sinre 1946, Dr. Sandford has con ducted more than 60 courses in effective speaking, 20 public clas ses in salesmanship and 90 courses for companies and organizations, in addition to his university courses. His first tYvo degrees are from the University of Michigan and his doctorate from Ohio State Uni- versity. He was on the staff of the University pf Minnesota, Ohio State University and the Univer sity of Illinois before joining the staff of St. Louis University in 1946.' Williams, professor of chemistry at the Uni versity of Texas since 1939 and di rector of its Biochemical Institute since 194i. He also has been con sulting biochemist since 1942 for the M. D. Anderson Hospital for Cancer Research in Houston. He holds a bachelor from the University of Redlands, a master and doctorate from the Universiy of Chicago and honorary doctorates from the Universiy of Redlands and Columbia University.
