Page 6 THE BATTALION Thursday, December 6,1951 Bowl Contestants What’s Cooking (Continued from Page 5) The Cotton Bowl contestants have lost a total of eight games this year, but both are colorful and will probably pro vide one of the best games of the day Kentucky with a seven won and four lost record is ranked 15 in the nation while TCU with a six won and four lost is ranked 11 in the nation by the Associated Press. Vito Parrelli sparking the Kentucky club has been nomin ated on several All-American selections and was third in the voting for the Heisman Award. TCU ably directed by the sophomore sensation, Ray Mc- Kown, has not been held scoreless all season using the Meyer spread with great success. Baylor Bears travel to the Orange Bowlj on New Years Day to meet the Engineers from Georgia Tech. Larry Isbell of the Bears received All-American honors from Look Magazine and was a unanimous choice for All-SWC will lead the SWC team in the battle. The Engineers have a slightly better record than Baylor Avith only one tie on their slate while Baylor has one defeat and one tie. Baylor-has Isbell and two fine ends which should be a Avin- ning combination. Battalion Classified USE BATTALION CLASSIFIED ADS TO BEY, SELL, KENT OK TRADE. No such freedom will be possible as long as the British persist in remaining in the Nile Valley. Historians discern a parallel be tween an incident in early Ameri can events and the present dispute between Egypt and Great Britain. In the year 1844, when the Re public of Texas, after eight years of independent life, was attempt ing to find entry into the Union of the United States, the British were against it. Their Minister to Texas offer ed every inducement, and pointed out that Texas cotton would he welcome to the Manchester mills. The attempt to sway the political fortunes of the southwestern re public, peopled as it was by pion eers of American blood and Am erican instincts, failed, and Texas came into the Union on December 29, 1845. Today, it is pointed out, Great Britain seeks new areas to fur nish her manufacturing economy with the cheap cotton she so sore ly needs. Here, it may be said, is precisely her interest in the wide and fertile prairies of the Su dan. Bldg. Students selling tickets be sure to be present.
