Page 4 - BRUSHED OFF - (Continued from Page 1) spect I craved, I thought that I had won my case. “The comment came back, how ever, that the administration ex pects its employes' and students to comply with the requirements of the Board and the president with out exceptions in principle or fact. “I was then told that they had other matters to attend to and I was told to go. “Reporters were waiting on the outside. They were probably dis appointed that I did not stop and visit with them a while. “But a class of 40 or more stu dents was waiting for me, and I hurried back to my classroom. At any rate more than likely I would not have said anything differently to them from that which I said to The Battalion one of the reporters of The Bat talion that afternoon. “My statement to this student reporter was that the appearance before the Board was not unpleas ant, and I could not see from any thing that they did and said on that occasion that they intended to dismiss me. I felt that this was a preliminary hearing, which it might well have been, and that they would look more deeply into the subject when they had more time. “At about 9 o’clock that night I was called on the phone by one of the Dallas News reporters. He informed me that I had been dis missed from my position and wanted to know what I had to say. I told him that I doubted the accuracy of his information. He, thereupon, read me the ac tion of the Board. “I then called Dean Bolton and Dean Brooks to see what they knew THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 1948 SUGGESTED GV DUKE C- WILLARD UNIVERSITY OP MORTW CAROLINA ’‘Have a pack of Dentyne. The next morn ing the report was confirmed in the newspapers. “I .told the reporters that the statement in the wording of the action of the Board to the effect that I admitted my inability to substantiate my charges Avas an outright lie. This will be treated in my next release.” ★ Dr. Clark’s next statement will concern his “ability to substantiate the charges.” Edward (Ned) Ten Eyra, Syra cuse University crew coach, was unbeaten at sculling between 1895 and 1901.
