Dur ing the year 1900-01, however, he served as principal of the Austin High School, while the regular principal spent a year in Europe. While a student at the University, Mr. Potts did special work in history, econom ics and government, holding the position of Fellow in Economics during last j^ear. Mr. Potts has also spent two summers in the University of Chicago, specializing on these subjects. A paper prepared by Mr. Potts on the Texas treasury has just been accepted by the editors of the Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, and will appear in the special financial num ber of that publication. FRED. S. JOHNSTON. Frederick S. Johnston, newly elected Professor of Agriculture at the Agricultural FREDERICK S. JOHNSTON Professor of Agriculture, Texas A. & M. College. and Mechanical College, is a native of Ohio. He was born at Oberlin, Ohio, Dec. 20th, 1873, and was prepared for college at Pierpont Academy in Ashtabula County, Ohio. Before going to college he spent the year 1892-1893 in teaching in the public schools of the county. He entered the agricultural department of the University of Ohio as an undergraduate student in September, 1893, and was graduated from the same institution in June, 1899. Im mediately after graduation, the position of Assistant Professor of Agriculture in the New Hampshire Experiment Station was tendered him and he accepted. After occu pying this position for two years, 1899-1901, Prof. Johnston was elected Associate Pro fessor of Agriculture at Purdue University, Lafayette, Indiana, and Agriculturist to the Purdue Agricultural Experiment Sta tion, which position he held until Septem ber 1 st of the present year, when he resign ed to accept his present position. EDWARD C. GREEN. Was born in Detroit, Mich., Oct. 2, 1874. At 13 years moved to truck and fruit farm, eighteen miles from above-named city.
