Committee Asks Sock-Tagging Policy Changes A change in the laundry policy of sock-tagging has been made at the request of the Student Laun dry Committee. The committee, composed of both civilian and cadets, has asked George Hartsock, laundry man ager, if some way could be found to identify socks besides by the tags fastened with metal clasps. At a recent meeting, Hartsock told the group that, on a trial basis, small cloth tags are being attached to the toes of socks. This, he noted, eliminates holes at the top of the sock. lie also noted that the proce dure was working well, and that the possibility of having tags with bound edges (to keep unrav eled threads off the socks) pro duced for the laundry was being checked into. Hartsock also asked the com mittee members if they would tell students in their areas to tie their bundles more securely. Often, he said, the laundry has hundreds of loose pieces, and those without a laundry mark cannot be returned. “i don’t mean so tight we have a hard time opening them,” he ex plained. ‘’Just making them fairly sfecure would be appreciated, thoqgh.” They also visited the center mu seum where space vehicles and equipment of Mercury, Gemini and Apollo missions are exhib ited. The tour would normally have included stops at the centrifuge and moon surface mockup, but these were in use. Bob Watson of the NASA public relations division conducted the tour. “This visit to the center en hances studies of the cadets,” ex plained Air Force Col. Vernon L. Head, professor of aerospace studies. He explained the jun iors are studying space and space systems. Cadets were accompanied by Majors Charles Haney, Eugene Gray and Hal Wandry of the in structor detachment. (AP Wirephoto) SDS Strike Fizzles In Austin AUSTIN (A*)—A student strike called by the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) at the University of Texas at Austin failed to gain substantial support Tuesday. SDS had urged students to boy cott classes to attend outdoor discussion sessions on subjects ranging from left wing politics to cinema and art, but only about 150 persons attended the “critical university” classes. The univer sity has more than 30,000 stu dents. SDS spokesman Larry Water- house said the attendance was “frankly, less than we had hoped.” Waterhouse said he still hoped the “critical university” could produce a “unified student group” to back the SDS in its efforts to reverse a decision by the Texas- Austin administration to deny use of the student union building for the SDS national council meeting this weekend.
