Members of the Bowling Tourney Held Here On MSC Lanes By LEE WILSON The Texas A&M Match Bowling Team hosts the Texas Intercolleg iate Bowling Conference on the Memorial Student Center Lanes this Saturday at 9, 1 and 3 p.m. The Aggies will be seeking their second straight conference cham pionship. Winners last year in a going- away manner, the Cadets are on the verge of breaking this year’s action wide open. They will enter Saturday’s meet a 12% game lead er over second place Southern Methodist University. Earlier this month in San An tonio the team all but mathemat ically sewed up this year’s race. Saturday they can win it outright in their 1 p.m. match with SMU. The Cadet keglers can eliminate the Ponies and cop the crown by winning four. The Match Team will be com posed of three veterans and two new-comers. The vets are Larry Dantzler, junior civil engineering major from Dallas, Frank Pearce, sophomore economics major from Corpus Christi, and Lee Wilson, senior education major from Aus tin. The new-comers, although not new to conference action, are Bob Korose, freshman chemistry major from Houston, and Bob Nor ris, sophomore pre-law major from Lubbock. Posted Fine Average The Aggie team represents a fine 893 average, which is a good deal more than 178 per man. Dantzler leads the team with a 192 average; he is followed by Wilson, with 180,- Korose, 177, Pearce, 173, and Norris, 171. The Cadets jumped off to quick lead in the first inning on the help of the Gopher center- fielder’s error. Catcher Bill Puck ett drove in Byron Barber from second base and the Aggies led for the only time during the aft ernoon, 1-0. In the Gopher half of the second inning, they batted around and scored five runs, four of them on pitcher Howard Nathe’s grand slam homer. After the second inning, the Ag gies were never really in the game. Barber came in from left field to pitch his first game this season. He pitched 3% innings, then went back to left field as Mike Spence came in to chunk the final three frames. The big star for Minnesota was Nathe, who drove in five runs and was the winning pitcher. All- American first baseman Wayne Knapp collected three hits for the Gophers, including a home run. Barber added another Aggie run in the 7th inning as he smashed his sec ond homer of the baseball cam paign. Dick Hickerson, the big red headed first sacker, continued his hitting streak as he now has hit safely in eight straight Aggie games. Cadets Tabbed Favorites In Lamar Tech’s Meet The Aggie thin-clads have been tabbed as “the team to beat” this weekend in Beaumont as they join Lamar Tech and Northwest ern Louisiana in a triangular track meet. Main strength for the Cadets will be in the sprints and the relays. The outstanding sprinters are Ed Williams, Curt Roberts, Gene Dornak and Bob Clark. In the mile relay, George Tedford, Thad Crooks and Hubert Nelson will join Dornak. Crooks is favored in his special ty, the half mile, but E. L. Ener will have trouble from Lamar Tech’s Ian Stewart in the distance races. In the field events, Don Deaver and Jim Daniels are co-favorites in the high jump and Jim Brewer and John Long should take the javelin. Next weekend the Cadets travel to San Angelo for the big San Antonio Relays.
