6 THE BATTALION i AMONG THE COMPANIES I “I” COMPANY Of course we all know that “I” Company is the best company in the College, but let us tell you a few things about it. First, what makes this company what it is? The offi cers— * * * Our Captain, H. S. Hudson of Pearsall, whose every day life is an expression of devotion to duty, and whose actions exemplify the ideal leader in military training and build ing up, is one whom is loved by all. He, with his assistants, is making “I” Company one which is so well trained that it is an ideal for all others. Then there are First Lieutenant Montgom ery, Second Lieutenant Barber, and First Sergeant Blumenthal, all of whom are some of the best officers in the Cadet Corps. * * * “I” Company has some of the most studious Juniors on the Campus. This is probably due to the fact that nearly all of them study Genetics. They are living examples of what a good soldier should be in the ed ucational line. * ❖ * Then there are Sophomores. They are true to the traditions of their class, and are very instrumental in helping to make “I” Company what it is and' will be. Among them are many of the Freshman Class of ’17, and of course they are well-skilled in the art of dealing out this educa tion to the “Fish” of “I” Company. * * * dx : x company. You will find them the most loyal of all “Fish”. They constantly abide by the rules and reg ulations laid down through various and sundry means. * * * We are going to have the best drill ed company on the Campus and ai’e also going to capture the Howell Tro phy for the coming season. In athlet ics we are going to put up a strong fight for the basket ball champion ship. Under the leadership of a former “T” man, Pat Dwyer, our team is training daily and preparing for the initial game. SO WE ARE COMING! WATCH OUR SMOKE!! * * * The basketball squad of Company “I” is developing ento an A-l team. About eighteen men are now in train ing and out of this number, the cap tain “Pat” Dwyer, expects to pick a team that will take the school honors and furnish a lot of good material for the College team. Of course it is too early to prophecy the results of any of the basketball teams, but “Watch Company I”. * * * The “Fish” in Bizzell Hall have been examining the trees very consci entiously for “Jay-birds.” * * * A remedy for insomnia, put them in Co. C infantry. * * * Such men as “Rabbi” Bertcher, “Chicken” Harrison, Jerry Kuebuna, some of the Sophomore live wires, and an unlimited flock of talented fish, is what accounts for the victor ious Co. C infantry. * * * The “H” company basketball squad has been organized. Practice is held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Coach Ehlert states that he has a good bunch of men who are working with much enthusiasm. The follow ing have been reporting regularly and are showing up well: * * * T. J. Cockerell, J. T. Long, C. J. J. Wright, J. Delaney, F. C. Steglier, R. Best, E. E. Ward, B. H. Allen, G. Young, W. M. Mayit. * * * W. L. Allen of Marlin, has been forced to stay at his home on ac count of illness. The members of Company H are waiting with eager eye for his return. Another member of our company whom we hope t osee back soon is J. W. Hooper. BATTALION OCTOBER 23, 1919 Concert Benefit For Our Athletic T earns. On Thursday night, October 30, at Guion Hall, the band will give a con cert for the purpose of raising a few “Simoleons” for our athletic teams. It will be well to state in the begin ning the sole purpose of the money derived from the benefit. Most of us know that our athletes have never been provided with “honest injur.'’ blankets. It is the rule of the ath letic council to give “T” blankets to all Senior “T” men. Through the generosity of these old men some few of these blankets have been used around here. But—our teams have never been fitted out so that ALL men could have blankets. On next Thurs day night week the band has consent ed to give a concert of popular mu sic for the main object of fitting out our team with nifty blankets. It is our duty to support this en tertainment. Our men will meet Ok lahoma the day after this concert. The blankets have been ordered to be here for that big game., The ques tion is—Will this corps stand behind those warriors who fight till they drop for us poor insufhcients in the grand stand? We want our team to be just as well equipped as Texas’ —and on that great day when the crowds shall gather from far and near to witness the onrushing dis aster for Texas U, we want all the visitors to say:—A. & M. is forever getting something new, look at those blankets.’’ Don’t forget that these blankets will remain the property of the ath letic association till they wear out and that old team is looking to every loyal Texas A. & M. man to be on hand Thursday the 30th. The Texas Veterinary Club met last Friday night and organized for the year. The following officers were elected: President, “Chicken" Harrison; vice president, W. T, Dorris Giles; sergeant-at-arms, “Doc' 1 Mockford; reported, Joe Hull. All sixteen members were present and they are determined to make this the most successful year for the club. The club will have its next meeting the first Tuesday of next month in the parlors of Francis Hall. Joe Hull the renowned “buck parson” will give a short talk on the bucking bronchos of Taft ranch. *** +%* ♦£* ♦£* ♦£» Y i T T Y Y Y v t Y Y 1 T ❖ ❖ Campus Barber Shop ♦j* Seven chairs.
