NEWS The Battalion I 3.30.15 CAMPUS Attendees find their match at AggieCon By Taylor Siskind hs. The Cepheid Variable, a student organization for science fiction en thusiasts, hosted the 46th annual Ag gieCon this weekend, a convention held to bring together people with interests including sci-fi, anime and comic books. For the first time, AggieCon tried something new by hosting an event called “The Cosplay Bachelor/Bach- elorette.” Two different versions of the event were constructed, one G- rated, the other an 18-and-over event. In this game, people dressed in cosplay, short for “costume play,” volunteered to find their perfect match. The catch: they could only speak as the character they came dressed as. This resulted in reference after reference of quick, witty lines. Chosen before the event started, three participants sat on one side with a divider blocking their sight from the “bachelor” or “bachelorette.” Also blinded by the divider, the bachelor or bachelorette then asked questions to figure out who could be their best potential love interest. At the end of the questioning, the bachelor or bach elorette, with the help of the audience, chose his or her match. Afterward, each of the participants’ identities were guessed and revealed with a result of some pretty odd pair ings. Below are pictures of the final couples along with how they knew it was meant to be. Casey Lee, English senior, dressed as Mr. T, and Mandy Tinder, entomology graduate student, dressed as Anna from “Frozen.” “A mutual appreciation for face-punching,” Lee said. Vanessa Pefta — THE BATTALION Junior infielder Logan Taylor attempts to beat the throw during the 14-5 A&M win over Missouri Sunday. BASEBALL CONTINUED responded with two runs to tie the game at 2-2 all the way until the eighth inning, when Missouri smashed a ball down the line to left field to score a runner and give the Tigers a 3-2 advantage. The Aggies threatened in the ninth in ning, but could not get the ball to bounce their way and lost their first home game of the season. Kyle Simonds made his first career start on the mound, working five in nings, allowing only three hits and two unearned runs. After its first loss of the season, A&M responded with an 11-run outburst at UTSA. Sunday, the Aggies had a nine-run sixth inning to propel them to a 14-6 vic tory. A&M had three home runs in the ballgame, includ ing a grand slam from Logan Taylor during the sixth in ning surge. The Aggie lineup had mariy stars, led by Mitch ell Nau and Logan Taylor, who each had four ILBIs on the day. Nau also hit his first home run of the season. On the mound, junior Matt Kent had a stellar outing, as he worked six innings, surren dering seven hits but keeping the Missouri lineup scoreless. “Clearly we don’t like los ing,” said Logan Nottebrok after the game. “Everytime we lose a game, we come back and show up ready to play. They call this champi-- onship Sunday. Champion ship games are ready to play on Sunday. We could easily have turned it down and went about our business. We came out strong. You know you have to win Sunday games to compete in the SEC.” The overall attendance for the weekend was 18,776, which is the most for a week end series since the Blue Bell renovations in 2012, and was the fifth-highest weekend at tendance in Olsen Field his tory. The Aggies will return home on Tuesday to take on the Sam Houston State Bear- kats. Juan Carlos Urqui- di, engineering soph omore, came as Spike the Dragon from “My Little Pony,” and Tori Angus, geology sophomore, dressed as Honey Lemon from “Big Hero 6.” “He asked, ‘Are our species compat ible?’ and I said, ‘Well we’ll have to go back to the lab and find out,”’ Angus said. Megan Hipchen, a future visualization student at A&M, as Tadashi Hamada from “Big Hero 6.” Christine McBroom, interdisciplinary studies junior, dressed as Lara Croft. “I played the previous game, the G-rated, and so coming here was like, ‘I can only imagine what’s going to happen when I come here,” Hipchen said. With a fantastic Shaggy impression, Byron Verett said, “So like, it totally got me right in here in my belly when she talked about freezing pizza and making ice cream frozen,” Verett said. “Ice cream sandwiches are one of my top 10 desserts, man.” Place an Ad Phone 979.845.0569 Suite L400, Memorial Student Center Texas A&M University When to Call 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday Insertion deadline: 1 p.m. prior business day VISA Private Party Want Ads $10 for 20 words running 5 days, if your merchandise is priced $1,000 or less (price must appear in ad).
