hit .043 on the night.
“(Guilliard) has limited range,”
saidA&M head coach Laurie Cor-
belli. “She has good power and hits
what she sees, but she’s not as ver
satile as others in the Big 12.”
Felder finished the night with
five service aces, tying a career
high. The Aggies as a team record
ed a season-high 12 aces.
“We realized that’s something
we needed to change,” Corbelli
said. “We knew we needed to
be more aggressive when we go
back to serve.”
Felder said her technique is to
keep the ball from spinning and hit
it hard in the middle, basically to
serveupa knuckleball.
“That’s what I love doing,”
Felder said. “A serve is an im
portant way to start, and you can
set the tone really well with a
lough serve.”
Corbelli said her squad started
slow in part because it was too
tight to start the game.
“We knew that in the end, we’d
come out on top,” said senior Me
lissa Munsch, who led the team
with 10 digs. “Being back at home,
we maybe were trying a little too
hard to win.”
Corbelli said it’s her job not to
be affected by the nerves, even be
fore an important game.
“I could see we weren’t there
yet; it just takes some patience,”
Corbelli said. “If I’m not going
to have it, then the team isn’t go
ing to have it.”
It also seemed like another
day at the office for junior out
side hitter Laura Jones, who tal
lied 14 kills to lead the team for the eighth time
this season.
T just go out there and have fun,” Jones said. “The

setters give me the ball more than the others because
I’m kind of the last resort out there. I like to have fun,
and I think it gets the other girls real excited.”
Astros upends Cardinals 6-4
HOUSTON (AP) — The
Houston Astros pushed closer
to a playoff berth, winning
their club-record 15th straight
home game by beating the St.
Louis Cardinals 6-4 Wednes-
daynight behind Jeff Kent and
Jeff Bagwell.
The Astros temporarily tied
San Francisco for the NL wild
card lead. Houston also moved
a half-game ahead of the slump
ing Chicago Cubs, who lost their
second straight to Cincinnati
earlier in the day.
Bagwell had a run-scoring
single in the seventh and Lance
Berkman followed with an RBI
double to help the Astros eclipse
their best home winning streak
set in 1980 at the Astrodome.
