Gamble broke his ankle 10 days before the event, hampering last year’s conference champi onship. Gamble still com peted and was able to take home sixth place in the triple jump and eighth place in the long jump. “We are going into this meet with a lot of confi dence,” Gamble said. “It is the most important meet of the season and we have so much on the line. We really want to win.” Gamble and the rest of the men’s squad are looking to compete well enough to stave off Texas, Nebraska and Kansas State. Those three schools along with A&M are regarded as the top four men's squads in the conference. Freshman distance runner Brian Duplechain is also excited about this weekend’s event where he will run the 1,500 meters. “I can’t wait, this is what the whole season has come down to," Duplechain said. Duplechain is looking to improve on his fifth place fin ish at the Big 12 Indoor Conference Championships in the 1.000 meter event. The track and field team returns home to College Station to host the All- Comers Meet on May 13 in a last-ditch effort for partici pants to qualify for the NCAA Midwest Regionals. also at A&M. on May 28. Aggie baseball travels to Nebraska for three-game series with Cornhusker$ By Brad Bennett THE BATTALION The No. 10 Texas A&M base ball team has more than just finals to worry about this weekend. The Aggies are traveling to Lincoln, Neb., for a three-game series witli the University of Nebraska. A&M (33-13, 9-8 Big 12) has to recover from a close non conference 1-0 loss to Texas State Tuesday at Olsen Field. Aggie sophomore outfielder Justin Ruggiano said the team is trying not to think of the loss. “You don’t want to be nega tive all week going into Nebraska,” Ruggiano said. “It is a long season, and we are almost done right now but we just have to keep playing hard.” A&M head coach Mark Johnson said the loss won’t slow down his team. “If you spend all your time magnifying losses, you won’t play well.” Johnson said. "You move on and team from your mistakes. Johnson said the biggest changes will be made on offense, which only had three hits and no runs on Tuesday. Johnson said A&M may make changes in the batting order to jump-start the offense. Johnson said Nebraska (29-12. 8-7) has been sliding recently, and he hopes to take advantage of that. “We are playing a good ball club that hasn’t played well in the past couple weeks ” Johnson said. “We know they are good but you hope they don't come out of it until next week." The Aggies are hitting a team average of .306. just slightly over Nebraska's average of .300. Sophomore shortstop Cliff Pennington is hitting .350. lead ing A&M. while freshman third baseman Austin Boggs follows Pennington with a .348 average. «TK [HE » H THE SAN loston hot lab ioterroi world’s king pl hah lefedei Supp< jented 1 w or i lent lat arees ityina _ __ _ Evan 0' Connui * TH E BATTALION Texas A&M sophomore outfielder John Infante congratulates sophomore shortstop Cliff P« nn ' n 9*° f ’ after scoring against Houston in A&Ms 8-1 win on April 1 3 at Olsen Field A&M plays three games at Nebraska lhi s weekend Johnson said he on saul he was happy with the pitching on Tuesda> but hopes to work in more of his bullpen this weekend. Johnson said. “We wanted to get Rampy out there, and we wanted to get Pennington out there too. We got good pitching on Fridays and Saturdays. We just need someone to step up on Sundays." A&M redshirt freshman pitcher Jason Meyer was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week last Tuesday after throwing his first complete game shutout last Friday in a 1-0 win over Missouri.
