Sumpter received his bach elor's degree at Oklahoma State University, his master's at the University of Florida and his doctorate from the University of Texas. Charles A. Johnson, dean of the College of Liberal Arts, said he feels Sumpter is well-pre pared for the position. “Dr. Sumpter is very well qualified,” Johnson said. “He brings experience as a journalist as well as experience on faculty and a commitment to provide journalism education for stu dents here at Texas A&M.” Brenna Rackham. however, said she is not impressed with the new minor. ”1 think it's sad that they’re going to take 1 away the journal ism department altogether.
