SPORTS 7 Monday, April 5, 2004 NCAA Continued from page 5 “I thought he played well against him last time,” Georgia Tech coach Paul Hewitt said, referring to Schenscher. “Luke has done whatever we’ve asked him to do to help this team win. The last time we played him he did an outstanding defensive job on Okafor.” Both players need to avoid foul trouble, some thing that almost did in Okafor and the Huskies in their 79-78 comeback victo ry over Duke on Saturday. Okafor played four min utes in the first half before picking up his second foul and got his third four min utes into the second. When he returned for good with 14:23 to play he dominated inside on both ends. “This whole year we were supposed to make the Final Four. We’re here and I’m on the bench,” Okafor said. “1 had the best seat in the house that first half and it was killing me.” When the men in striped shirts blow the whistles early in the championship game at least four people will be hold ing their breath, hoping the foul isn’t on either big man. “It’s going to be a great matchup. He’s going to have to play one of his better games,” Hewitt said, refer ring to Schenscher. “If we can keep him out of foul trouble, it’s going to be a great, great matchup.” Schenscher gave a quick scouting report on the 6-10 Okafor. “He’s just an athlete. He’s big. He’s strong,” he said. “He’s got great footwork around the basket. He’s got great timing blocking shots. He’s just an all-around great basketball player on both ends of the floor.” Okafor also had some kind words for Schenscher. “He’s a good 7-footer with good skills, and he’s got a lot of confidence right now,” Okafor said. “He’s coming off a big game, 19 and 12, those are good numbers. He’s going to have all that working for him.” SPORTS IN BRIEF English and western equestrian teams make nationals The English and western squads of the Texas A&M Equestrian team will compete in the national championships together for the first time in A&M’s history after wins in last weekend’s zone championships. The A&M western squad provided the most excitement of the week end, earning its place in the nation als on the last rides of the show. The Aggies took a two-point lead over Colorado State University after getting a win in the second-to-last event. Despite A&M placing fourth in the final event, Colorado State was only able to score one point, resulting in a final score between the two teams of 27-26. The A&M English squad didn’t have to sweat as much as the west ern riders, taking the top spot over Colorado State, 54-42. The western squad will be look ing to be only the second team ever to win three consecutive national championships, while the English squad will be seeking to win its first national championship trophy. A&M soccer plays Brazilian national team in exhibition The Texas A&M soccer team will host the national team of Brazil at 7 p.m. Monday, April 12 in an exhibi tion at the Aggie Soccer Complex. Brazil is ranked No. 6 in the world. The team advanced to the semifinals of the 1999 World Cup and reached the quarterfinals in 2003. The Brazilians’ match with the Aggies is in preparation for the Olympics this summer in Athens, Greece. "We are very excited about playing such a celebrated team," said A&M head coach G. Guerrieri. “This is a great opportunity for our loyal fans to see ‘the beautiful game’ played at its artistic best here in Aggieland.” Corps needs Americans with skills in Environment Education Agriculture Health Peace Corps needs 5,500 graduates with skills in agriculture, business, education, environment, health and information technology.
