SPORTS IN BRIEF Aggie baseball heads to Round Rock to face Bobcats Jones Continued from page 8 The No. 9 Texas A&M baseball team looks to rebound from Sunday’s 14-5 loss to Texas Tech as it travels to Round Rock, Texas, to face Texas State University at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Dell Diamond. The Aggies (23-6) moved up in the polls one spot despite dropping two of their four games last week. Texas State (15-2) is coming off a three- game sweep of Southland Conference rival McNeese State in Lake Charles, La. The sweep brought the Bobcats win streak to four games as they enter the game with A&M. Texas State, formerly Southwest Texas State University, will start senior pitcher Paul Schappert on the mound. Schappert is 2-4 on the year with a 7.09 earned run average. In 33 innings of work, Schappert has given up 55 hits and 30 runs and batters are hitting .390 off him. A&M will counter with sophomore right- handed pitcher Robert Ray. Ray dropped out of the weekend rotation two weeks ago before the conference-opening series with Baylor University. He is 1-1 on the season with a 6.38 ERA. Ray has also struck out 27 batters in only 24 innings pitched. The Aggies will return to College Station Wednesday to take on the University of Texas- San Antonio at Olsen Field in a make-up game from a rainout Feb. 24. ilinate our schedules, but we usually aside the weekends for us,” Jones said.1 usually that gets interrupted more spring because there’s more weekendevs sched uled.” (ophom jllier A( St After practicing for two hours witli team.
