Gunter's home run gave A&M a 3-0 lead in the third inning. The Aggies' lost their second game on Saturday, 4-1, to No. 17 Oregon. The Duclcs won the St. Joseph Aggie Invitational II with a 5-0 record. The Aggies finished the tournament 3-1. The final game between A&M and Southern Mississippi was can celled Sunday due to standing water in the outfield. Basketball Softball Continued from page 6 Continued from page 6 The Aggies never could find an answer as they went cold from the floor in the second half, shoot ing a dismal 29.2 per cent, allow- WATKINS 1 n g Colorado, to outscore the Aggies 40- 28 in the half. “Maybe it wasn't meant for us (to win) this season,” Turner said. With the loss putting the Aggies another step closer to matching Baylor’s 1998-99 squad as the only two teams in Big 12 history to go win less in conference games, it’s clear that Watkins' fate seems destined to follow in the foot steps of Davis. But by playing a close game against Colorado, the Aggie players are still trying to end their season on a win ning note. “The way they played; it was a great team,” Harrison said. “They’re playing for (Watkins) right now, and you’ve got to respect that.” Oregon getting 10 hits and four runs. Wilhelmson had four strike outs and one error in her complete game. Evans said W i I h e 1 m s o n' s pitching should have won the game. “Wilhelmson made some great pitches in tough. situa tions,” Evans said. “They EVANS scattered 10 hits but she pitched well enough to win the game, and that is all we can ask of her.” The Aggies’ only score of the game was by junior left fielder Jana James who singled and was hit in by a double to center from sophomore designated player Kristin Gunter. The other Duck run was scored by freshman right field er Ann Marie Topps off a hit by freshman first baseman Kristi Leiter. The Aggies went 3-1 in the tournament last weekend beat ing Southern Mississippi and Penn State on Friday and Penn State in the early game on Saturday. Sunday’s game against University of Southern Mississippi was cancelled due to standing water in the outfield from storms early Sunday.
