About three hours later, three women stu dents were released, one of whom was three months preg nant. The teacher remained in the classroom. The gunman, believed to have had a 9 mm pistol and what looked like a butcher knife, made no demands during the standoff. NYSE gets back to business - f - NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Stock Exchange went back to business without a chair- fnan Thursday amid questions about how much more upheaval would result from the colossal pay package of former chairman Dick Grasso. ° Some critics insisted that Grasso's resignation Wednesday needed to be followed by a clean .sweep of the board room. There was much speculation about whom the NYSE board’s search committee would consider for the top job — from former regulators to invest ment guru Warren Buffett — but there was no clear front-runner. Some traders, fearful of radical change, said they would prefer an insider. Grasso, a charismatic figure who started out as a floor clerk in 1968 and was named to the NYSE’s highest office in 1995, may not be easy to replace. Credited with transforming the exchange into a competitive, high-tech marketplace, he was high ly regarded even as he was toppled by outrage over his $187.5 million pay package. live, onstage Michael Martin Murphey with Bruce Wood Dance Cowboy singer Michael Martin Murphey comes to the MSC OPAS season for a one-night-only performance with Fort Worth-based Bruce Wood Dance.
