NEWS IN BRIEF
Mother accused of endangering child
I HOUSTON (AP) — A 21-year old woman has been charged with
fcur counts of endangering a child after barricading her four young
children in a hot, filthy apartment for more than a day.
■ The children were in foster homes Tuesday. On Monday,
police found the children and Children’s Protective Services
took them into custody, the Houston Chronicle reports in its
Wednesday editions.
I Their mother, Laura Gutierrez, was in the Harris County Jail on
Tuesday evening in lieu of $2,000 bail.
I The landlady and her 18-year-old son heard the children crying
and told police they hadn’t seen her since about 9 p.m. Sunday.
I Inside the uncooled apartment, police found a 6-month-old boy,
a 1 1/2-year-old girl, a 2-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl in a back
bedroom where a sofa had been moved against the door to pre
vent them from escaping, Hay said.
