If You Have Something To Sell, Remember: Classifieds Can Do It Call 845-0569 The Battalion Friday, April 25, 2003 Oklahoma Continued from page IB Meanwhile the Sooners (36-8, 10-5 Big 12) are com ing off of finishing the Bedlam Series, the rivalry series between the Sooners and the Oklahoma State Cowgirls. The Sooners will come into the game riding a four-game winning streak, as well as having won seven of their last 10 games. The Aggies are likely to face a tough young pitcher in Sooner sophomore left-han der Kami Keiter. Keiter is coming into the series with a 25-4 record and a minute .76 ERA in addition to leading the Big 12 in innings pitched. Offensively, the Sooners are led by senior infielder Leah Gulla who will enter the series with a .417 batting average. By heading up to Norman to face the Sooners on the road, Aggie senior catcher Selena Collins knows the Aggies will be in for a challenge. “We always have a great game with OU,” Collins said. “We are definitely looking forward to see their star pitcher, Kami Keiter. We’ve been watching a little bit of film on her of late because we wanted to specialize our approach against OU. They are not your average team, and these games are impor tant for us to win.” The road only gets tougher for the Aggies after they leave Norman and have to prepare for Big 12 tourna ment play. The tournament begins May 1 and runs through May 4 with the Aggies’ first-round matchup to be announced later. Court Continued from page IB a highly competitive 7-0 finish, t “I think we will treat them just as we would the first time we played them,” Cass said. “(Losing the last meeting) maybe gives them a little more motivation, but we will take them very seriously.” The match for the Raiders is not something to scoff at. The Aggies have beaten Texas Tech 31 out of the 34 times the two schools met during the last 25 years. “It shows how tough our con ference is when the No. 4 team in the conference is No. 10 in the nation,” said Texas Tech Head Coach Tim Siegel. “Our guys have done a good job all year playing hard and facing chal lenges and adversity.” The Aggies have faced some adversity of their own this season. The club has suffered from a lack of depth that has plagued it since the opening gun. The Aggies lost key starter sophomore Ante Matijevic twice this year due to illness. In both matches, played against Texas and Oklahoma State, the Aggies fell by a single point. Matijevic has become an important cog in the Aggies’ wheel this year; he was named Big 12 Player of the Week on two separate occasions, and earned the Big 12 Singles Championship at the No. 3 spot. But Matijevic was not the only Aggie to receive the honor. Senior All-American Ryan Newport gar nered an individual championship at No. 1 and sophomore Lester Cook was awarded the singles championship at No. 2. The three players combined compiled a record of 16-3 during league play. Newport has also reached a career high of No. 8 nationally. The main issue for the Aggies Friday, and throughout the tourna ment, will be the same question that nagged them early in the year: the inconsistency of their doubles play. After losing the doubles point in the last two matches, Cass has made the decision to shuffle the Aggies’ lineup and move Newport and junior Khaled El Dorry up from court No. 3 to No. 2. They will be playing behind the No. 8 duo of Cook and Matijevic, who will battle at No. 1 for the Aggies. The winner of the match between the Aggies and Red Raiders will move on to play the winner of the Baylor-Nebraska match. The second round of the tournament will be held Saturday morning, with the finals coming on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Aggies take the court Friday at 11:30 a.m.
