THE BATTALION Kansas Continued from page 7 Tribe would have helped secure an easier route to obtaining an assured NCAA tournament berth. Kleinecke, though, understands that in lieu of their loss on Saturday, playing a test ed team like William & Mary will lend valuable experience to his young and eager team. "I have a lot of respect for William and Mary," Kleinecke said. "They gave us nothing and made us earn every point. They were a very good team for us to face, and if we keep fighting and keep working hard, eventually things will come out our way." The Aggies will be hitting the road this week for their final three regular season matches. A&M will face the University of Texas on Tuesday and will then square off against Kansas State University and the University of Kansas on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Monday, April 14, 2003 Nebraska Continued from page 7 pair that accounts for the last three Big 12 Player of the Week honors, finished off sophomores Josh Rivera and Joerg Bartnel with an ace, completing the match with a score of 8-5. “It’s a team effort that’s required to win doubles ... and we had really good focus, intensity and purpose today,” Cass said. After sweeping all three matches in the doubles com petition, the Aggies contin ued the string by putting away the Huskers in straight sets across the board. The win pushed the Aggies’ record at the A&M Tennis Center to a perfect 16-0. The A&M men will remain at home to play Baylor University on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Track team shines at home By Marcus White THE BATTALION The Texas A&M track and field teams scored early and often Saturday on their way to picking up 20 more regional qualifiers at the Texas A&M Invitational. A&M and the University of Texas led the way, picking up 20 and 24 regional qualifiers, respec tively, in Saturday’s contest. The No. 3 Texas women took first in the women’s 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter sprints, as well as the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter relay. The No. 14 Texas men picked up five gold medals and regional qualifying bids, including first- place finishes in the men’s 200- meter sprint and the 400-meter relay, despite resting freshman Brenden Christian. “I need guys to step up and put themselves in that position where if any person on any other team falters ... we're there to pick up that spot,” Texas Head Coach Thornton told the Daily Texan, the UT student newspaper. A&M captured 17 regional qualifiers and six first-place colle giate finishes in the field events. A&M got started early in the afternoon, picking up its first qualifier in the meet’s second event.
