A hoax is any act that is intended to trick
others. It has been happening for hundreds of
years, and it will continue for hundreds more
to come.
The Museum of Hoaxes is a Web site dedicat
ed to archiving the truth behind the greatest hoax
es in history. The stories found on the Web site
date from the 17()()s and extend to the present.
The Web site is maintained by Alex Boese,
a graduate student at the University of
California in San Diego. Boese explains each
hoax in great detail and in a manner that
resembles a school textbook. The history of the
hoax and any proof debunking it is given in an
objective manner, and pictures are provided
when available.
A book of stories is available for anyone
who becomes addicted to the Web site.

offers hundreds of cards for every possible occa
sion. The cards use flash to make them animaid
and interactive. Sending and receiving cards via
e-mail is easy and, most importantly, free.
While the site offers a great service, it is
impossible to avoid pop-up ads — thanks to its
many advertisers. Constantly closing these win
dows can easily become annoying.
While the ease of sending an electronic
greeting card is tempting, visitors needtoeiei
choose another card-friendly Web site orheadta
the post office. Bristos.com, and its many ads,is
just too frustrating.

The Museum of Hoaxes is a fascinating site
that easily draws visitors and keeps them there
for hours. Visitors can test their own ability to
spot a hoax through quizzes. They can also dis
cuss any hoax with other visitors on a forum.
Overall, it's an educational and informative Web
site that is worth visiting. Plan on staying around
tor awhile, because the site's information seems
to be endless.

his — and he is in no way
involved in
money laun
dering.
Johnson
told CNN's
Larry King on
Friday that
the papers,
discovered by
German cus
toms officials in November
when he crossed the border

potential investors with whom
he was discussing a movie proj
ect.
The former “Miami Vice" and
"Nash Bridges" star said he
might sue a German tabloid
and other media that published
stories last week alleging he
was involved in illegal activities.
"They perpetuated this story
of money laundering based on
no evidence, based on no inves
tigation, and it's caused me an
unbelievable grief, unbelievable
grief," he said, adding that
banks closed two of his
accounts because of the story.
"My son called me crying,"
said Johnson, 53. "It's been ter
rible. This has been one of the
most difficult weeks of my life.'
Johnson said he was return
ing to Germany from a meet
ing in Switzerland when the
officials made a routine check
of his car.
Customs spokesman Wolfgang
Schmitz said the officials returned
the papers after making copies
and are continuing to review
them. He said there was no indi
cation of any illegal transactions,
