The degree, though granted through A&M College Station, will be available at A&M-Corpus Christi, A&M International in Laredo, and A&M-Kingsville via Real Time video lectures broad cast at those campuses. Gates said the . distance education ability is important because it moves the A&M System toward more inter- campus collaboration. Three regents whose six-year terms are expiring this year were all granted honorary titles. Anne Armstrong was grant ed Regent Emerita, Dionel Aviles was granted Vice- Chairman Emeritus, and Erie Nye was granted Chairman Emeritus. The difference in Emerita and Emeritus is the gender of the recipient. Gov. Rick Perry has the responsibility of appointing replacements for Armstrong, Aviles and Nye. He could re-elect any of them for another term. “We don’t know what he (Perry) may do,” said Bob Wright, director of Communications for the Texas A&M University System. (AP) - Nell Carter, who played the stout, sassy housekeeper on the 1980s sitcom "Gimme a Break!" and won a Tony Award in 1978 for her sultry turn in the Broadway musical "Ain't Misbehavin'," died Thursday at 54. The singer-actress collapsed in her Beverly Hills home and was found by her 13-year-old son Joshua, spokesman Roger Lane said. The cause of death was not immediately known. Carter had suffered from dia betes for years, Lane said, and she underwent two brain opera tions in 1992 to fix aneurysms.
