Dog-eat-dog world rom her appearances to her credit card: Reveille y s life explained By Erica York THE BATTALION The life of Reveille may appear to be all otos and pampering, but this is a dog that has tougher job than most Aggies realize. “Reveille has a really tough lifestyle. She Is to go to games, she has to be walked t ound all the time and she has to be P® 1 proached all the time,” said Mascot Corporal ^ r( * an Caddick. “That’s a lot to ask of a dog. ostdogs just eat, go to the bathroom in the ckyard and slobber everywhere.” On the flip side, Caddick, a sophomore gen ii studies major, admits Reveille : is her own credit card but it is ledfor necessities only. “Granted, I have 1 a credit card, jjim 1 guarantee you more money is nt on other student organizations anon her,” Caddick said. ”1 buy rthings any dog would need. It’s lot like I go out and buy diamond pllars for her.” Caddick said though Reveille sn’t have diamond collars, she is th to achieveilhigh maintenance dog. Carlson said founded CtK I Clone after it ived interwki ine to clomsii “She’s the first lady of A&M, and |etreat her like that, (which (leans) you’ve got to spend some pero,” Caddick said. “We don’t will try to steal extra food when he eats on campus with her. “One time she attacked a bagel I had in my hand and she got about half of it,” Caddick said. “I went hungry that morning.” As a treat. Reveille occasionally gets steak and chicken cooked for her from Duncan Dining Hall, Caddick said. When it comes to class time with Reveille, Caddick said teachers usually follow the tradition of dismissing class when Reveille barks. “At the beginning of the year, she barked a lot,” Caddick said. “Now she’s settling in more, and she sleeps almost more than I do.” Kelly Jump, a senior market ing major, said he once got out of class when Reveille barked, but only because Reveille was persistent. “Reveille barked once and the teacher wouldn’t let us out,” Jump said. “Then Reveille start ed barking like crazy, so she had to give in.” Jump said he was surprised to witness the tradition. “I never knew if it was an actual tradition or a rumor, so it She is the first lady of A&M, and we treat her like that... Everywhere vego, she goes,” Caddick said. “I guess it’s he other way around — everywhere she goes, ve go.” Kyle Goldman, a sophomore finance major ind member of E-2, said Reveille seems more ike a regular pet to him now. “We get to deal with her on a personal level,” Goldman said. “It’s funny for us to see how nuts people go about Rev because to us in E-2, it’s |ike she’s just our family dog.” Caddick said Reveille has set meals, but was pretty cool when it worked,” Jump said. Caddick said Reveille will sleep at night if she is really tired from her day, but she usually has an event to attend. “At least every other day, I have something to take her to,” Caddick said. “It’s pretty consis tent. We go visit little kids, we go visit elemen tary schools around here, we talk to them about the Reveille tradition, we talk to them about A&M tradition and we tell them how bad ‘t- sips’ are.” Though Reveille has to look nice and attend many special events, Caddick said Reveille just wants to act like a regular dog sometimes. “Sometimes I don’t think she realizes that she’s Reveille. She’ll just run around in the rain some times,” Caddick said. “We let her be a normal dog ;h Friday W- ’ the SliWP M Univeis^ lend address » station, w Texas \ journalisr 11 ' 5-3313; t orsementby 5-2696, For I McDonald, 378. /I student to C.Mail sub- 7 50 for tb e >r American every once in a while. She’s got so much puppy in her still and she’s so playful.” Caddick said despite rumors. Reveille has never bitten anyone. “You really have to hang out with her one on one to find out how cool she really is. She’s a great dog,” Caddick said. “All in all, it’s a blast. It is so much fun to be able to take care of this dog.” Caddick said many people have voiced opinions on how Reveille should behave in public, but forget she is only 2 years old. “One thing I’ve found out is that at this university, everybody is an expert on how to take care of Reveille and how Reveille should act,” Caddick said. “The truth of the matter is she’s a dog, and nobody can predict and nobody can tell her how she should act and what’s appropriate.” While some people may think Reveille lives a spoiled life, Caddick said Aggies should take pride in one of A&M’s most well-known traditions. “We take pride in our mascot because we’re Aggies and we strive to be the best,” Caddick said. “So'why would you not want to take care of one of the most visible parts of the University?” Caddick said he has to leave an hour early for class and is often 15 min utes late wherever he goes, but Reveille is worth it. “How often do you get the chance to take care of a really cool dog that is fun to hang out with for a year and be able to be an ambassador for her, for all students and to all Aggies,” Caddick said. “It’s a privilege to take her around and promote the Aggie spirit.” ANGELIQUE FORD- THE BATTALION H _Ui I pifc (&■ eatles the hell outta Oklahoma //V THE BASEMENT ALL NIGHT LONG Free Bowling See Beatles Cover Band The Return Live in the Theatre Free Billiards @ lOPfn Free Dance MSC Film Society's Aggie Cinema Dance Revolution Presents: A Hard Day's Night ' Free PonCOWp &Soda in the theater at 8:30 pm Only $1 ivith ID Ar|:§,..&..Ci:n i t'*i FREE Food all night long!i SsiliSH ■iJK'i;: m wi ; -f:'-' ? : : :• •• i: : ' IJ Win cog( musical prizes Playing RINGG in The flagroom live Music In The Zone Plaza from round four of MSC Town Hall’s Battle oftheBanBs For more information contact 845-1515 Check-in locations around the MSC Friday, November 8 8pm - Midnight Yell In the MSC
