But they still managed to get blown out again by the Eagles. Philadelphia returned two interceptions for touchdowns, including Jeremiah Trotter’s 50- yard return on the final play of the first half, and the Eagles started six drives within 50 yards of the goal line in their 36-3 win over the Cowboys on Sunday. “What you saw there was a replay of the first game,” said Cowboys coach Dave Campo, referring to the 40-18 score in the first game between the teams. “We needed to protect the ball, and we didn’t do it.” The Eagles got their only offensive TD after a Dallas fum ble at the 25. And even though they failed to score from inside the red zone for the first time, they converted five other times. Despite their 2-7 record, the Cowboys have only been blown out of two games — both Sweet Continued from Page 5 postseason play in three tries.” UT was in the NCAAs for the first time. In the other first round game at the Aggie Soccer Complex, A&M beat Southwest Texas State University, 3-0. SWT was also in the NCAAs for the first time. With Sunday’s win, A&M advances to the third round of the NCAA 2001 Soccer Championships against No. 4 Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif., against the Eagles (6-3). Both times, they gave away the game in the second quarter. It doesn’t get any easier than Trotter’s interception return — on a pass by Ryan Leaf that did not make any sense — that gave the Eagles a 20-0 halftime lead. “You don’t get chances like that every day, so I wanted to make the most of it,” Trotter said. “We knew that Leaf tend ed to make that throw.” The Cowboys, on their own 40 with just 15 seconds left, let Leaf take a deep shot downfield, but the pass was incomplete. Instead of throwing deep again or even taking a knee. Leaf threw a short pass. Trotter stepped in front of Randy Chiaverini and ran untouched to the end zone. Campo said the out-route was called with the thought the Cowboys could get in field-goal range. But the throw to midfield came with no time left. The Eagles have won four of five games and swept the season series against the Cowboys. NCAA Continued from Page 5 DeBastos is running in his first season at A&M.
