Student organizations at A&M volunteering at the Fall Classic include MSC Hospitality, MSC Fish and Alpha Phi Omega. “Even the the surrounding high schools are helping,” Brown said. “We need all the help we can get because the Fall Classic is nearly 10 times bigger than any other Special Olympic Games we’ve held in College Station.” The coordinators for the Fall Classic said it is not too late to sign up as a volunteer for this weekend’s events. Those inter ested in volunteering can send an email to sotxfallvolun- teers@yahoo.com with con tact information or can show up at the the Fall Classic vol unteer headquarters at the Student Recreation Center on the A&M campus on the day they would like to volunteer. All of the events that occur during the Fall Classic are open to the public, but accord ing to Fink, Brown and Hixon, the best part of the weekend is the victory dance and closing ceremonies. “The victory dance is chance for people to m and mingle with the letes,” Fink said. “It’sa# derful social opportunity both the athletes and community volunteers." The victory dance closing ceremonies willi place Saturday evenins 7:30 p.m. at Reed Ai There is no entry fee, open to the public. M i" Usks Big 12 Continued from Page 9 Nebraska quarterback Eric Crouch is fifth in the conference career-rushing list and is tops among league quarterbacks. Crouch av erages 5.18 yards per carry, while Williams gets 4.57. Williams and Crouch will go head-to-head this weekend when "lech visits Nebraska. Kansas State running hack Josh Scobey and Iowa State running back Ennis Haywood also achieved personal milestones this season. Scobey broke the 1,000-yard mark just 16 games into his career against Oklahoma on Sept. 9, while Haywood broke the 2,000- yard barrier earlier this season, thanks to a 219-yard rushing performance against Ohio. half of the league’s teams will see tel sion time ABC and Fox Sports, both holdinja sDayna C u itiative man) Three on TV Bi watc plenty of chances to conference football this weekend, as fo< tracts with the Big 12, evoked a six-d vance with the conference for this weeia jfhanistan w ABC Sports announced it will televiseC orado at Texas at 2:30 p.m. (CDT),wi I cxas A& \ 1 at k.-State game will be telera on regional over-the-air outlets at 111 Fox Sports Net wall televise theTa Tech at Nebraska game on a mtionalli at 6 p.m. Aggies Reed Continued from Page 9 yards dowms despite the Aggie loss. Taylor leads the Aggies with 27 catches on the season, total ing 403 yards. Murphy is sec ond on the team with 312 \ on 18 catches. Both had no collegiate expe rience coming into the season but are seeing more playing time because of injuries to two key receivers, Bethel Johnson and Greg Porter. Murphy’s 146 yards and 10 catches against Colorado set a fie freshman receiver record. Tie tandem also became only the second pair to tally 100-yard receiving performances in the same game. It was the first time that an Aggie receiver has gone over the century mark in receiv ing yards this season. T he last to do it was Robert Ferguson, who had 105 yards on 8 catches against Oklahoma in 2000. Continued from Page 7 last summer’s U.S. played in Amateur. He has played in two tourna ments this year, and in the Tucker Invitational, Reed fin ished in a tie for 46th. The finish left him feeling, as he said, “pretty disappointed.” “I’m my biggest critic,” Reed says. “I think that being that makes me work harder, makes me always want to be at my best.” Reed’s high expectations are not confined to his post-college golf career. His goal for this year is to be an All-American. There is at least one other person who feels he is capable of achieving that goal. “I think he’s got every ability and every desire to do it,” said junior golfer and teammate Located Bellind Cliicken Oil Co. Dwayne Morley, “If there’s one person on this team who really works hard enough and has the ability to make it happen, it’s this kid.” If it seems that Reed’s life centers around golf, that’s because it does. Reed says that is the only way he would have it. “Golf is what I really want to do. My life is totally focused on golf right now,” Reed said. “I’m focusing on golf as a career. It sounds bad, because I know I’m supposed to be a student-athlete. But I kind of think of myself as an athlete-student.” Reed and the Aggies have a new head coach this year in J.T. Higgins. But it has not taken Higgins long to be impressed by Reed, both as a golfer and as a person. “Stephen Reed is a coach’s dream. He works as hard as he can possibly work,” Higgins said. “He always tries todo! right thing, and he’sveryt ed.
