On Oct. 13, Kickstand will perform at Big Pauly’s. There is no cover charge, and the show starts at 10 p.m. Members of the band include Jon Reisch, lead guitarist and singer; Josh Lee, singer and rhythm guitar; Erik Grande, lead guitar; Pippy Coulbourne, bass player and David Conlon, drums. The overall sound of Kickstand is similar to Pearl Jam, Sound Garden and Stone Temple Pilots — basically the mid-90s alternative sound. The group's songs, which range widely in sound and style, result from the influence of the band members’ diverse life experiences. “All of the members have great ideas on their own aspects of music, and each have shaped Kickstand in one =8* % m way or another,’’ said Conlon. “Each idea comes from the personal and individual influences other people had on our lives. I love that our band can be so unique but sim ilar at the same token.” Kickstand, which has frequently per formed at The Grove and the Zone, has also played at several Northgate venues and cites North by Northgate as its favorite booking because of the high student turnout and support. While the band said it hopes to attain a showing similar and as populated as last year’s spot at North by Northgate, its present goal is to leave Texas A&M having played in Shadow Canyon. Currently, it is planning to perform in San Marcos before the end of the school year and has its sights set on landing a gig in a major city, such as Houston or Austin. In the meantime. Kickstand said it enjoys playing with other bands not only to attract larger audiences, but for the learning experience gained by interacting with other talents. Kickstand’s members have been together since spending their freshman year together I at Lechner, and a few have known each other since their very first day on campus. Although there were different band members in the past few years, each of them shared ihe same goal — making music. The band started out by practicing i Lechner television lounge, trying toi everything without amplifiers to avoidd turbing people. When the resident advij put a halt to its practicing, the band recem permission from Hall Council so they practice during a designated timeeachv Today it is no longer practices inthet but instead, in a studio off Harvey Mi Parkway. The band said it looks forward release of its CD in early spring 2002,i recording it in Dallas over the summer. Although being a member of Kicks! offers definite benefits and experiences, artists plan on going their separate ways! graduation. Some wish to go to gr st hool or law school, but music will .cJ remain a large part in the members'lives.! “All of us have different goals inf Reisch said. “Some may be looking ton it in the music industry and some mayi The important things to remember are! much fun we had the past four years] making the most of our talent, lea many new things, and forming the friendships with the other members] Kickstand.” Third F Tonight at ate Rebec alternative fan says t define bu femininity female po \ 5>$ Pan Acoustic s blend of c the Texas special g The show is no cove Fltawlll Kulhanek set on the p.m. Cove j Shadow Country rr will perfor charge is i Photo Coukii.sy oi KICKSTAND • THE BATTAUO BBQ Satchel’s & Steaks Zapatos Wide Op Boyd, will 8:30 p.m 303 Boyett • College Station, Texas 77840 • 260-8850 Next to Tradition’s Dorm Located Behind Chicken Oil Co.
