Wednesday, Septeml^t-5^%CLD-f THE BATTALION Page 7 Fuhrman makes comeback Former detective scores book deal, radio shows SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Of all the people who got mauled by the O.J. Simpson trial, Mark Fuhrman probably came out in the worst shape of all. Caught lying on the witness stand about his use of racial slurs, and forced to retire and plead no contest to perjury, the Los Angeles detective who found the bloody glove was ruined — until he relocated to Idaho, scored a book deal and wrote the best-selling Simpson retrospective “Murder in Brentwood.” Since then, Fuhrman, 49, has become one of the most successful of the Simpson alums. Now a full-time true crime writer— with two more “Murder in ...” titles behind him — Fuhrman is also host of a twice-weekly local radio talk show called “All About Crime.” Two of his books have been optioned for TV movies. Fuhrman, a Tacoma native, owns a ranch near the resort town of Sandpoint, Idaho. He said he has adjusted to small-town life — mending fences, driving his ’94 Chevrolet truck, taking his two sons to soccer games. “Is it the thing I’d like to do the most?” the 20-year LAPD veteran said. “No. I’d rather be nobody, working on a case with my partner in the middle of the night, making civil service wage. I can’t have that. This is the next best thing.” His 1998 book “Murder in Greenwich” examined the 25-year-old slaying of Connecticut teenager Martha Moxley. Some have credited Fuhrman with leading the charge to arrest Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel. Skakel is awaiting trial. “He’s been able to carve out a new life for himself as a great detective and a commentator on crime,” said author Dominick Dunne, who wrote the foreword to “Murder in Greenwich.” “I’m happy for him.” At Simpson’s trial, defense attorneys used tapes of Fuhrman — a key witness for the prosecution — using racial slurs to cast doubt on his testimony. Dunne said Fuhrman is not a racist and he believes Fuhrman’s comments were blown out of proportion, allowing a guilty Simpson to go free. • a , Ful-TImo Engineer. Graduation Continued frorn Page 5 through the weekend so stu dents can have their diplomas framed before they leave town. “That way they can show mom and dad their diploma in a frame instead of a tube,” Lukeman said. Different options can be viewed at the display in the back of the MSC or online at their Website, http://uplus.tamu.edu. Besides all the pomp and cir cumstance, students must make sure they are going to be able to walk the stage at Reed Arena and check with their advisors to do a degree audit and register for graduation in Heaton Hall. What they are going to do after graduation should also be planned out, and C. Wayne Terrell, associate director of the Career Center, said December grads need to register with them as soon as possible to take advantage of the opportunities the Career Center offers. “Everyday they delay, (regis tering) they are missing inter views,” Terrell said. Terrell said registering with the Career Center allows stu dents to interview on campus when employers visit. They can also have access to job listings for those employers who do not visit the campus. Once a resume is posted, companies can come and search the Career Center's database for what skills they are looking for. Another benefit is being able to attend workshops, many of which, Terrell said, are offered by employer volunteers. “This is beneficial because students can hear first-hand what employers are looking for,” Terrell said. Workshop topics include resume writing and advice on A BIG AGGIE The Parking, Traffic & Transportation Services Department would like to thank all students for their cooperation in removing their vehicles from the 12th Man lots for the McNeese State game. Ott-TMt If you forgot to remove your vehicle from any 12th Man lot for the McNeese game, dont worry! for ONE TIME ONLY we have dismissed all 12th Man relocation-related citations. Please, remember on Sept. 21 to remove your vehicle by 6:30 p.m. from any designated 12th Man lot for the ■ Okalahoma State game. * This offer is ONLY good for individuals relocated from the 12th Man lots prior to the McNeese State Game, Sept. J. * what to wear to the interview. Terrell said interviewing workshops are important and students should utilize these workshops in order to make a good first impression on a potential employer. “Those who haven’t beep grounded at (interviewing) basics come in at a disadvanf tage," Terrell said. Career fairs can also be a way to make contacts and Terrell said students from all majors should take advantage of them. Terrell said there is no rul^ stating that Liberal Arts major£ cannot attend a Business Careef fair and there are a lot of employers who are looking for all majors. Even though this is an exci^ ing semester for December graduates, there is a lot of planl- ning to do for those getting ready to leave Aggieland.
