ns offer warmth and style
By Anne Hoar
The Battalion
As the wind whips through
College Station and tempera
tures dip below 50 degrees,
students are faced with the
challenge of finding clothing
that provides warmth and,
above all, style, t*
Basic black and camel
dominate the color spectrum
for women and men, but win-
er does not have to be littered
ith bland neutrals. Bright,
old colored tops paired with
ack pants or a skirt provide a
n contrast to tire usual earth-
ne scheme. Men, use cau-

Some trends for the season
would make an easier transi
tion into the College Station
scene- if followed in smaller
amounts. Faux fur looks best
in a vest paired with black flat-
front pants and a black turtle
neck . The gold mesh that
could work as' a ski it or pants
probably works best as a tank
or short-sleeve top with a
black skirt or pants,Keep in
mind, this necessitates a warm ;
coat or sweater.
Accessories are re mi n i see
of the ’ 80s. They are bigger,
brighter and all about glitz a
glam. Thick belts, lots off
bracelets and big hoop ear
rings are back for nights on t
town and are slowly makin

The coats available this
year make it a prime time to
i choose a coat to invest in for
/ years to come. A basic black or
. brown leather jacket, without
too many buttons or zippers,
will stand the test of time. <
When all else fails, nothing
beats jeans, tennis shoes find a
maroon sweatshirt to face a
chilly morning: There will be
* plenty of time to dress well af
ter college, when today’s stu
dents enter the business world
.and dressing well will be ex
pected and easier to afford.
There is a limit to how 1
black item can be worn and
still have its fresh, modem y
color. T
Flip flops are banished to*
the back of the closet or rele-;
gated to shower duty during
the cooler weather, meaning it
is time to bring out the boots,
but not necessarily those of the
cowboy variety. When buying
a new pair, think for the future
and buy a simple style that will
be fashionable for years to ;
come. Keep boots polished to
protect the leather and keep it
looking new:
A popular trend for women
is knee-high boots in a neutral
' shade, such as black or camel.
These boots look best paired
with a skirt that hits below the
knee or at mid-calf. Knee-high
boots can be worn for a night
out or during the day. to a lunch
with friends or a job interview.
