The Communicable Disease Centre in London said Wednesday that cases of the illness have been found in England, Scotland and Dublin, Ire land. Thd latest available figure, as of June 9, was 64 cases confirmed since April 19, of which 32 were fatal. Scientists think the illness may have been caused by anaerobic bacteria — which live in the absence of oxygen. The infection is linked to heroin that is injected into muscle or other tis sue, rather than into a vein. Early symptoms are swelling or inflammation around the site of the injection, followed by ab scesses that worsen over several days. The pa tient then usually suffers toxic shock. The Glasgow health board has advised hero in addicts to smoke the drug rather than inject it. Possible spy arrested TAMPA, Fla.
