Sepulveda Continued from Page 9 players] act against their old team,” said A&M right fielder Daylan Holt. “The main thing Los wants to do is win the se ries no matter what.” Sepulveda en tered UT as one of the top prep prospects on the diamond — hitting above .400 in all three of his high school seasons. He did not let up after entering the Big 12 scene. The freshman drew 44 starts in 47 games, switching between center field and des ignated hitter, while batting .299. Yet, Sepulveda was not satisfied. From the beginning the heavy hitter did not mesh with the Longhorn coaching staff. As he entered the preseason of his sophomore season, the differences be came too much, and Sepulveda took a year off from collegiate baseball. That is when he decided to follow in the footsteps of French and Schumach er, hoping to catch a little of the “Olsen Magic” in Aggieland. “Coming to A&M is the best thing I could have ever done,” Sepulveda said. “| A&M baseball coach Mark Johnson] has really helped me step up my game and the team is a perfect fit for me.” A&M and Los matched well from the beginning. He opened the 2000 season by securing his spot as the starting left fielder and clean-up batter. After power ing his way to base in the early part of the season, Sepulveda’s numbers dropped during the middle of the Aggies’ Big 12 campaign. Yet, even with the midseason lull, he has the third best batting average — .299, with eight home runs, 33 RBI and a .524 slugging percentage. Despite recent struggles at the plate, Sepulveda has produced an RBI in each of the last three games with one home run. “He’s been giving us some better at bats lately,” Johnson said. “I’ve seen some better strokes out of him the last four games than I saw at the first of the stretch when we weren’t doing well. “When you back off and look at the season, he was the deciding factor in a couple of ballgames. So he’s certainly been a welcome addition to our team.” Sepulveda has definitely found his new home at Texas A&M. This week end the player who has won the hearts of the Raggies (A&M baseball fans with a reputation of harassing opposing teams) with his “Latin Flavor” will get the op portunity to show his former teammates what “Olsen Magic” is all about.
