MEDALS reaches out to students
Conference encourages high schoolers to examine opportunities

The Battalion
A life of low-paying, menial labor may seem a bleak reality
for millions of disadvantaged high school students, but Minority
Enrichment mid Development through Academic and Leadership
Skills (MEDALS) is trying to show some of these students that
there is a ray of hope in higher education.
MEDALS is holding a conference Friday mid Saturday in the
Memorial Student Center with the aim of encouraging high school
students to explore their career opportunities after graduation.
“MEDALS is all about getting [high school students] to do
something positive after high school — whether it is college, or mil
itary, or anything like that,” katiuska Quintero, die executive direc
tor of the conference mid a senior bilingual education major, said.

with representatives from universities, technical schools
and military organizations.
