College Station, with a 48-per cent passing rate for African-Amer ican students, finished seven points below projections. Dr. Danny Stribling, director of cur riculum in CSISD, pointed to rising scores among African-American stu dents in the district. “What we’ve done is take a proactive approach by looking at every child and developing an in dividualized plan for that student,” he said. Meier said successful school dis tricts, which had a wide variety of programs for early diagnosis and coordination of curriculum and parental involvement, should serve as role models for other districts. “Districts with an exemplary record of educating African-Amer ican students have longstanding policies of high standards, consis tent curricula across the grades and no tolerance for failure,” Meier said. “If the top districts have any thing in common, it’s hard work over a long period of time. 1 though and is i undergi e prospect o l^ss inviting t Finding a c ere are man g students.
