The Texas A&M Football Team (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) will take on the University of Okla homa (3-2, 1-1 Big 12) Saturday in Norman, Okla. The game is set for 6 p.m. and will be nationally televised by Fox Sports Net. OU/A&M Facts In their three meetings as Big 12 confer ence members, the Aggies have outscored the Sooners, 113-23. A&M leads the all-time series between the teams, 9-8, and has won four consecutive games against OU. Saturday’s contest is OU’s homecoming game. The Sooners have not played in Norman since since Sept. 18, when they defeated Baylor, 41-10. After a road victory over Louisville the next week, OU went on to lose at Notre Dame and in Dallas against Texas. McCown Eyes Record After passing for a career-best 362 yards against Kansas, quarterback Randy Mc Cown is averaging 254.7 passing yards per game. With 1,528 passing yards through six games, McCown is well within reach of the A&M single-season passing-yards record of 2,463, set by Kevin Murray in 1986. The senior is third in the Big 12 and No. 16 in the nation in total offense, averaging 275.3 yards per game. Kitchens: A Household Name For the fourth straight week, A&M place-kicker Terence Kitchens is the na tion’s top field-goal kicker, averaging 2.5 field goals per game. ESPN.com ranks the Aggie junior No. 2 in the nation behind Florida State’s Sebastian Janikowski. Offense Heats Up After racking up 522 yards against the Jayhawks, the Aggies face another suspect defense Saturday against OU. The Sooners are 76th in the nation in total defense, al lowing opponents 381.6 yards per game. But unlike KU, Oklahoma has the type of offense that can make up for defensive mis takes. The Sooners’ passing offense is sixth in the nation, averaging 336.4 yards per game. “They have a high-octane offense,” A&M offensive coordinator Steve Kragthor- pe said of the Sooners. “We’re going to have to score some points to win.” Kragthorpe said he was happy with the Aggies’ performance against KU but is still looking for more. “We’re never satisfied,” he said. “There’s no doubt that we can improve in a lot of different areas.” Injury Update Running back Dante Hall is doubtful for Saturday’s game after spraining his ankle against the University of Kansas last Saturday. Linebacker Jason Glenn (sprained ankle) and running back D Andre “Tiki” Harde man (groin injury) are expected to play. Offensive tackle Shea Holder is out for the season with a torn right ACL. Running Back by Committee When Texas Tech running back Ricky Williams went down in the season’s first game against Arizona State, questions about the Red Raiders running game arose. Since then, however, the Red Raiders have used a platoon that has served them well so far this season. Fullback Sammy Morris has re turned from academic problems to provide the team with a spark. His 170 yards against then No. 5 Texas A&M led the Red Raiders to a 21-19 upset win over the Aggies. Last week against Colorado, another running back stepped up to help ease the loss of Williams. Freshman Shaud Williams torched the Buffaloes for 230 yards on 22 carries, an aver age of 11 yards per rush,in Tech’s 31-10 win. It was the best rushing performance by a fresh man and the 11th best rushing performance in Tech history. With the combined rushing of Morris and Williams, the Red Raiders sit MORRIS in a three-way tie for first place in the Big 12 South with Texas and Texas A&M. One for the Road...Finally When Iowa State defeated Mis souri in Columbia, Mo., on Satur day, it did something it hadn’t done since it was a member of the Big Eight — it won a conference game on the road. The 24-21 win over the Tigers was the first road win in confer ence play for the Cyclones since Nov. 2, 1991, when they defeated the Tigers 23-22. Iowa State used 111 yards from running back Darren Davis to over come a 14-0 first quarter deficit and record its landmark win. Before last Saturday, Iowa State’s road record as a member of the Big 12 was a miserable 0- 13.
