Hickey led the 1993-1994 team
to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tour
nament with a 23-8 over-all record
and a second-place finish in the
SWC. In 1994 when Hickey was
promoted to senior associate ath
letic director and relinquished her
coaching duties. She finished her
coaching career at A&M with a
154-128 record in 10 seasons.
Cheatham said she is now one
of only a few female athletic direc
tors at the Division I level and at
this level, Hickey will gain the
background she needs to be more
influential in the lobby for
women’s athletics.
She said Hickey will be missed
by many in the A&M Athletics De
partment because she was well
liked and got many people in
volved in the department.
“Lynn was a doer not a watch
er, she got many people on board
and involved in women’s athlet
ics,” she said. “She was and is a
great mentor, a great friend, and a
wonderful person, we will miss
her, but we will keep in touch.”

make finding a spot easier, new ar
rows will need to be painted.
“Obviously with the structure of
the garage and the way the first
floor is designed, the earliest Ithe
change could happen] would be
next fall,” she said.
Kathy Mathis, associate director
of PTTS, said the proposal for a shut
tle bus to run from West Campus
parking lots to the residence halls
will possibly begin soon.
Mathis said the proposed start
ing date for the shuttle would be
when classes resume after the win
ter holiday.

— Kathy Mathis
Associate director, PTTS
“This shuttle will run after
hours until 1:30 [a.m.] or 2 [a.m.],
when everyone is getting off of
work,” she said.
In other business, the General
Assembly discussed:
• The Coca-Cola Bottling Com
pany is responding to surveys con
cerning the vending machine ser
vice that residence halls provide.
The surveys were completed by stu
dents who live in the residence hall
during the first few weeks of school.
Steve McMahan, a Coca-Cola
Bottling representative, said the
company is hoping to provide
more machines to residence halls,
adding Aggie Bucks scanner to
some existing machines presently
not equipped and the replacement
of older machines, with mechani
cal problems, with new machines.
• Dr. Susanna Finnell, the Hon
ors Program executive director, pre
sented the history and future of the
proposed change of Clements Hall
into an honors residence hall.
Finnell said the change is still
being considered by Residence Life
and the Honors Program.

The Texas A&M College of Sci
ence recognized two staff mem
bers for their commitment to their
jobs and other faculty last week.
Ronald Carter, manager of busi
ness and facility operations for the
Department of Chemistry, and
Monique Stewart, staff assistant in
the Department of Mathematics,
were recipients of the 1999 College
of Science Outstanding Staff
Achievement Awards, which were
given last week at their faculty and
staff meeting.
Carter and Stewart were nomi
nated anonymously by their co
workers and selected based upon
their dedication, enthusiasm, ac
complishments and contributions
to their individual departments
and the College of Science.
Carter has been employed by the
College of Science for 26 years and
his duties are very diverse. He has
been known to work on weekends
and evenings dealing with fires,
flooding and power outages. His
nominators said any department or
university would be eager to have
Ron and his skills on their team.
