Page 12 • Monday, April 26, looo N EWS Slamfest ’ 99 25 teams participate in basketball tourm BY AMANDA PALM The Battalion Richard Jackson and his team mates dominated the court Satur day at the MSC Hospitality Slam fest ’99 3-on-3 basketball tournament. Twenty-four male teams and one female team participated in the double-elimination tournament. Teams were composed of Texas A&M students and non-students who entered advanced and begin ner brackets. Jackson, a senior agricultural economics major, said the outcome of the advanced bracket champi onship game was difficult to deter mine until nearly the end. “Then we started making our shots, and they missed, so we pulled ahead,” he said. There are 10 members on Jack- son’s team who participate in four tournaments per semester. The members take turns partic ipating in the various tournaments. Jackson said his team has played tournaments in New Orleans and at Southwest Texas State Universi ty, in addition to intramural bas ketball at A&M. “We won intramurals in 1997 but lost to our rival team this year,” he said. “Most of the players on our rival team are graduating, so who knows what could happen next year. ” Sanaz Khanbolooki, financial development executive for MSC Hospitality and a junior biochem istry major, said Slamfest was larg er than she expected. “We had to cancel last year be cause not enough teams signed up,” she said. “So I was real excited to have so many teams this year and to have everything run smoothly.” The tournament was organized and conducted by MSC Hospitality li evei jow y M : Busine as a resu ■gvmen pjinber c MIKEFUENIB Dr. Wi Slamfest, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament put on by MSC eni ' c had more than 25 teams participate in a multi-bracketed nation tournament Saturday. members who volunteered their time as registration workers and referees.
