How ever, many students have been ven turing to the MSC to visit another landmark that houses an extensive glass collection. Texas A&M and the MSC Forsyth Center Galleries is currently dis playing “A Rich and Lasting Beau ty: Masterpieces from the American Cut Glass Association National Col lection. ” "A Rich and Lasting Beauty" is the first in a series of several exhi bitions that will be taken from the American Cut Glass Association collections and represents the ear lier pieces of the national collection. The glass is not part of the per manent collection at the Forsyth Center Galleries, but there are sev eral permanent pieces of English, American and Continental glass do nated by Bill and Irma Runyon. Photos by tSallie turner eal huma png to si— Weir e-— ,yVliCkey Ha j jag Other behinc r \ l.f Iff # / y/rTMp esda y ni ^ sA' : iJf/r 5 renditio Jr 'Queen Ja rr'/f: . )olitica^a ■mh In 1902 to 1923, the pitcher and glasses (above) and vase (right) were designed in vintage patterns by the Tuthill Glass company Timothy Novak, di rector of the MSC Forsyth Center Galleries and curator of the Bill and Irma Runyon Art Collec tions, said the gallery would not be nearly as ex ceptional without the Run yon’s donations. “Bill Runyon, he was Class of ’35, donated every thing as far as glass and paintings [to the gallery),” Novak said. “At the time, it was the biggest gift we had gotten from a single per son, and it was an art col lection.” Novak said people have come from all over to see the gallery’s glass collec tion. “[Bill Runyon’s donation] made this one of the best collections in the world,” Novak said. “We have better English glass here then [what you can see in England]. “Scholars, researchers and students come to A&M to learn about the exhibit.
