Phil Pritchett
Suburban Legends
CD Courtesy of Spitune
Records
Phil Pritchett and his first two
releases, Philworld and Phil
Comes Alive, are familiar faces in
the Bryan-College Station club
scene. Opening for Pat Green
and regularly playing at
Fitzwilly’s, Shadow Canyon and
most recently the Theater,
Pritchett’s high-energy perfor
mances and unique, witty, some
times quirky sing-a-longs are a
welcome relief to the mediocrity
found in the work of many of to
day’s artists. Serving as his own
booking agent, publicist and
manager, Pritchett’s independent
spirit is reflected in his singing
and songwriting.
With the release of Suburban
Legends, Pritchett has strayed
away from the country-bar mu
sic he is known for and ventured
into the world of pop and rock.
Growing up in suburban Dallas
and drawing from such influ
ences as the Beatles, Elvis
Costello and Crowded House,
Suburban Legends gives Pritchett
the opportunity to go back to his
roots and mix things up.
Suburban Legends brings
Pritchett full circle. Whether its
the moving soul of “Colorado on
Trial” or the sing-a-long-be-
cause-you’re-at-a-bar-with-a-
beer-in-your-hand sound of “Re
sume,” Pritchett takes his
listeners through the album with
colorful imagery, great imagina-

Various Artists
Office Space Soundtrack
CD Courtesy of Interscope
Records
Office Space is a Dilbert-esqe
comedy by Austin filmmaker
Mike Judge, the creator of
“Beavis and Butthead.”
One of the comical elements
of the film is displacing the
geeky co-workers of the film
with rap by such artists as Ice
Cube, Scarface and Geto Boys.
The comedic effect is great,
but the soundtrack itself is flat,
dull and nothing special.
Songs like, "Shove this Jay-
Oh-Bee” by Canibus with Biz
Markie and "Damn It Feels Good
To Be a Gangsta” by Geto Boys
are the best representatives of
the gangster image that was
meant to contrast the office
nerds of the film.
The two tracks by Perez Prado
are excellent but are not gangster
rap like the rest of the album,
but have a Latin beat.
“Down For Whatever” by Ice
Cube is the best of the rap tracks
on the album.
In short, the film is great and
the soundtrack adds to it, but by
itself, the music is nothing spe
cial.
With all the real artists in rap
and rhythm out today, skip this
one. (Grade: D)
