Hollywood hormone magnate Sharon Stone called an emer gency celebrity press conference to make a correction regarding her infamous “condom state ment,” in which she recom mended that parents make con doms available to their teenagers. Stone made this controversial statement only weeks before the theater release of Gloria, a major motion picture about a small boy and his loving benefactress (Stone). Needless to say, this was not wise. Stone came forward, claiming to have been misquot ed. “I didn’t say ‘teens,’” Stone corrected, “I said ‘greens!’” Before press representatives could question Stone about this enigmatic statement, she slowly uncrossed her legs and left the conference for an NRA (Needs to Retire Already) meeting. Howev er, Sharon Stone brings up a good point (no pun intended). As with greens, for which condoms are used to tie together vegetable produce, condoms are steadily showing promise for uses other than contraception. Innovative uses for the condom ur the need to create new de- gns. 41U A few of these new condoms The Theater Arts Program Texas A&M University Presents 8:00 p.m., Feb. 18-20 Conference Center George Bush Presidential Library Tickets: $8 for general public: $5 for students/seniors Available at the MSC Box Office (409) 845-1234 or at the door Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. Condom week, despite being largely criticized, is by no means the first or the last controversial program intended for students. Other week-long programs in clude “hazing week," which is promoted across the nation by numerous fraternity houses and military academies, “study week" (also known as finals), which is actually the only week- long program acceptable to the majority of Americans and “Bor- row-a-Bike week." Although the condom indus try is promoting the idea of ex panding the condom’s applica tion (again, no pun intended) to create a more wholesome image for themselves, opposition to condom week still persists.
