UT officials said there were no ethical lapses with the gift or con tract, which went to Robert Ded- man Sr.’s Club Corporation of America (CCA). That the two oc curred simultaneously was coinci dental, the school said. The UT Board of Regents was scheduled to accept Dedman’s do nation at its meeting Thursday. According to the newspaper. documents obtained under an open records request “show that athletics officials saw the gift as a way to help pay for the club. Ath letics and company officials said re ceipt of the money was timed to co incide with construction payments.” University lawyers reviewed the gift for conflicts of interest, said Pa tricia Ohlendorf, UT’s vice presi dent for administration and legal affairs. “We felt there was none, even though the timing was such that, externally, it may appear there was a linkage,” she told the American- Statesman. “1 decided that every thing was fine.” Ohlendorf said Dedman’s gift went into a general pool of money for stadium construction and was not earmarked specifically for the club. • Dedman is a UT alumnus who gave $10 million for i \ scholarships in 1986.
