Texas A&M’s Faculty Senate
approved numerous course ad
ditions and course changes and
endorsed the proposed creation
of a Department of Performance
Studies, which will house the de
gree and faculty in theater arts
and music.
Also during the Monday meet
ing, faculty senators approved
the addition of several courses
in architecture and kinesiology
as components of humanities
and/or visual and performing
arts core.
In addition, senators en
dorsed a revised policy on mis
conduct in research, but opted
to refer a Northgate Resolution
back to the Faculty Senate’s ex
ecutive committee for addition
al revision.
Furthermore, senators heard
reports from former speaker
Wayne Wylie about a reward sys
tem for faculty members with
multiple missions at Texas A&M.
A workshop will be held
March 11-12 on campus to ad
dress this issue.

tion with World War II, three
movies set against the war — Sav
ing Private Ryan, The Thin Red
Line and Life Is Beautiful — were
nominated Tuesday for best-pic
ture Oscars and will go up against
two Elizabethan-era tales, Shake
speare in Love and Elizabeth.
“I think this is a tribute to the
veterans,” Steven Spielberg said of
the 11 nominations for his brutally
realistic Private Ryan. “It’s impor
tant that before this century is out
ample recognition is paid to the
veterans who saved the world.”
At least eight movies dealing
with the war have won the Acade
my Award lot best picture, includ

List in 1993.
