The Aggies are coming off a 66-61 loss to the Tulane Green Wave last Sunday. The loss ended a successful road trip on which A&M claimed the Big Apple Classic title with wins over the University of Massa chusetts and Man hattan University. The loss dropped the Aggies’ record to 4-4 for the season. Coach Peggie Gillom said the team felt the effects of their vigorous travel schedule against Tulane. “We just ran out of gas,” Gillom said. “We had a schedule that was made before I got here, and I could not do anything about that. The kids played hard, but their legs were gone.” Prissy Sharpe scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against the Green SHARPE Wave to post the 26th double-double of her career. Gillom described Sharpe as the best player no one has heard of. “Prissy Sharpe is a player,” Gillom said. “She does not get much recog nition, but that is not because of lack of performance. “Her game is pretty much a coach’s dream, because she can score from the inside and from the outside. She can do it all; she is def initely a player. ” Rice is coming off a 79-57 loss to Texas Tech University Dec. 6. Gillom said Rice is a good team. “Christy McKinney [Rice coach] has done a good job at Rice, and I know they have a good team,” Gillom said. “They have a lot of athletes and are tough to guard.” Gillom said she is happy with how the team has progressed so far, but some of the freshman need to step up. “We need some help off the bench,” Gillom said. “We have to get some of the freshmen into the game and have them get some confidence in themselves.” m2 hider Sophomore forward Prissy Sharpe pump fakes ini season exhibition game. Sharpe leads theAggii Snyder: KSU ready to play Purdue in Alamo B SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Kansas State coach Bill Snyder wants to make it clear he has nothing against the Alamo Bowl. “Our football team and our fans see the Alamo Bowl as our great est ally,” Snyder said Thursday. “You were here for Kansas State University when so many others were not.” Still stinging from last Satur day’s 36-33 double-overtime loss to Texas A&M in the Big 12 title game and the ensuing snub by the major bowls, the Wildcats are try ing to get past their disappoint ment, Snyder said. Their frustration was with the Wildcats’ only loss this season and the bowl selection process, not with the Alamo Bowl, Snyder said during a news conference with bowl organizers. “Our fans, like our players, like myself, were tremendously dis appointed about a sequence of events that took place over the weekend that had absolutely noth ing to do with the SNYDER Alamo Bowl,” he said. Kansas State (11-1) was ranked third in the BCS and No. 4 in The Associated Press poll even after los ing to the Aggies. The Wildcats face the unranked Boilermakers on Dec. 29 in the Alamodome. The Wildcats will be the highest ranked team to play in the Alamo Bowl’s six-year history. Purdue (8-4) beat Oklahoma State 33-20 in last year’s Alamo Bowl. “It’s, needless to say, a pleasure for us to be here,” said Boilermak ers coach Joe Tiller. “Congratulations to coach Sny der and the Wildcats. What a great year they’ve had.” Tiller joked that he hopes to per suade Snyder to leave a couple of his Kansas State players at home. “We’ve got to make some kind of arrangement,” Tiller said. ials.
