Beu- tel Health Center every Thursday from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. to offer stu dents free and anonymous HIV-test ing opportunities. Latisha Barnes, testing coordina tor for AIDS Services of the Brazos Valley, said the organization will of fer confidential and anonymous test ing. Confidential testing, which is also offered by Beutel, means the medical records, including the test results, are accessible only to the stu dent. Barnes said when being tested anonymously, the student can only be identified by a fake name, the stu dent’s birthday and an identification number assigned by the organiza tion. She said both types of testing are free to students; Bieutel charges $3 for the test. Margaret Griffith, health educa tion coordinator at Beutel, said AIDS Services used to offer testing at the health center, and she helped to convince the organization to of fer them again. “I always thought [free testing on campus] was an excellent ser vice for students especially for stu dents who don’t have access to a vehicle,” she said. Griffith said the health center is hosting AIDS Services in order to reach out to all students. “Getting tested for HIV is some thing that a lot of students are do ing, and we wanted to make it eas ier for them by offering both options on campus,” she said.
