Slocum
Continued from Page 1
Slocum said fans should not
be surprised to see senior run
ning back Sirr Parker play some
snaps at receiver.
“We’ve gotten to the point
where we have more speed on
the edges with Chris Cole and
Chris Taylor along with Parker,”
Slocum said. “I think the biggest
key for us right now is we’ve got
a fifth-year senior coming back
at quarterback.
“I expect him (Brandon Stew
art) to come back and take it to
another level. He’s made steady
progress since he’s been here.
Randy McGown is also experi
enced, and he’s a guy I have no
reservations about playing.”
Before Slocum’s speech,
members of his coaching staff
gave a group interview dis
cussing the upcoming season
for the Aggie football team.
Steve Kragthorpe, offensive
coordinator, said, “From a
scheme and structure stand
point, there won’t be a whole lot
of difference. The offense will be
more aggressive and attack the
defense and force it down the
field more.”
On the defensive side,
Slocum said the fans saw more
of the old-style Wrecking Crew
defense last year with more
blitzes and pressure defense,
and he said the biggest question
mark will be on the defensive
line and place kicking.
Bill Johnson, defensive line
coach, said the defensive front
is inexperienced, but he is
looking forward to seeing
them in practice and going
from there.
“It’s a great challenge, and
we’re looking forward to it,”
Johnson said. “We have some
good, young men to work with,
and we have a little depth this
year. We didn’t have that in the
past. I’m looking forward to get
ting out on the practice field to
see where we’re at.
“Right now, Ron Edwards is
the strongest up front. He can
run fast, jump high and lift a lot
of weight, and he’s got a lot of
power in his body.”
Mike Hankwitz, defensive co
ordinator, said the front line is
the most inexperienced, but he
felt good about the talent level
he has for the defensive line.
“The first three games
