He’s made steady progress since he’s been here. Randy McGown is also experi enced, and he’s a guy I have no reservations about playing.” Before Slocum’s speech, members of his coaching staff gave a group interview dis cussing the upcoming season for the Aggie football team. Steve Kragthorpe, offensive coordinator, said, “From a scheme and structure stand point, there won’t be a whole lot of difference. The offense will be more aggressive and attack the defense and force it down the field more.” On the defensive side, Slocum said the fans saw more of the old-style Wrecking Crew defense last year with more blitzes and pressure defense, and he said the biggest question mark will be on the defensive line and place kicking. Bill Johnson, defensive line coach, said the defensive front is inexperienced, but he is looking forward to seeing them in practice and going from there. “It’s a great challenge, and we’re looking forward to it,” Johnson said. “We have some good, young men to work with, and we have a little depth this year. We didn’t have that in the past. I’m looking forward to get ting out on the practice field to see where we’re at. “Right now, Ron Edwards is the strongest up front. He can run fast, jump high and lift a lot of weight, and he’s got a lot of power in his body.” Mike Hankwitz, defensive co ordinator, said the front line is the most inexperienced, but he felt good about the talent level he has for the defensive line. “The first three games da State, Louisiana Ted Southern Mississippi)wi baptism by fire fortheni .'j sive line),” Hankwiti “They are good teams, aiiij are veteran teams.Wetei talent, we just needtlitj game experience." The only down-note St had to report was thf lost two of their top pros|» quarterback Chip Amte wide receiver Choo Freei professional baseball, “We knew therewasastt possibility when we si them that we n them,” Slocum said.'Its disappointing, but thf ways a chance they change their mind andt back to play football.
