Call for information: J&S Studies 846-5933 of a computer glitch, which hap pens occasionally, said Jay Francis, jazz vice president for marketing. The bogus tickets "would have fooled me, if I didn't have one to compare it to," Francis said. "It's unfortunate. 1 know some people paid more than $500 apiece. People must have lost a lot of money that night." Police do not know exactly how much. Only about 20 victims reported their loss to police. The forgeries were printed on heavy ticket-paper stock with the Delta Center logo underneath, car ried the standard NBA disclaimer and had only one or two small dis crepancies from the real thing. "They even printed our spon sor's advertisement on the back," Francis said. One victim later spotted two scalpers who had sold him a pair of fakes for $300, and alerted police. An Arizona man carrying nearly $2,000 in cash was arrest ed Friday, but his companion was not. The suspect was released Saturday after posting bail and has not been charged. Police are seeking other vic tims who can identify scalpers who sold them tickets, said police spokesman Lt. Phil Kirk. It's the first time the Jazz have dealt with counterfeits, Francis said, but the team is worried it will not be the last. "We are assuming whoever is bright enough to do it for Game 2 can do it for Game 6 and 7, too," he said. Should the finals return to the Delta Center on Sunday, the Jazz will set up a booth on the front plaza, so wary buyers can con firm that their tickets are gen uine, Francis said. Carol Genseal of Sandy, Utah, forked over $450 for her sixth-row ticket, as did a friend. The scalpers said they were traveling with the Bulls, Genseal said. They seemed in a big hurry, a clue she wishes she had considered earlier. "1 was )ust sick. 1 actually felt ill right there,” Genseal said. She arrived at the seats shortly before tip-off only to find about a dozen other victims milling about in confusion. Genseal was angry that she was summarily ushered out of the Delta Center when the deceit was uncovered. "They told me, 'Move along, ma'am,' as though 1 was a criminal in custody," she said of the ushers who were "smirking" at her. Francis said the team is in an awkward position when phony tickets are used. During the season, the Jazz sometimes will give a spare ticket to victims who unknowingly bought stolen tickets. "But at the Finals, where | we're putting people in every i nook and cranny of the arena already, I'm afraid there's not j much we can do," he said.
