Softball splits on Oklahoma journey The Texas A&M Softball Team (32-22-1, 6-8) completed its tour of Oklahoma coming home with a split in both doubleheaders. On Saturday, the Aggies defeat ed the No. 8 Oklahoma State Cowgirls in game one 3-1 and then dropped game two 2-1. In the win, Ashley Lewis threw seven innings, giving up one run on four hits and striking out three for her 12th win of the season. The Aggies were leading OSU 1-0 going into the seventh, but gave up two runs and lost 2-1 with Amy Vining falling to 10-5 on the season with the loss. On Sunday, A&M split their dou bleheader with Oklahoma losing the first game 1-0 in nine innings. Lewis threw 8.2 innings before giv ing up the winning run to fall to 12- 8 on the year. However, the Aggies bounced back in game two to defeat the Sooners 3-1 with Vining throwing a complete game for her 11th win. In the OSU series, the Aggie offense was led by shortstop Jamie Smith who went 3-6 with two runs and one RBI. Stephanie Trumbull added a hit and two RBI in A&M’s 3- 1 victory over OU. Rooks Continued from Page 5 Rooks played a tough match to Kansas netter Christie Sim, but fell by a score of 6-1, 6-4. This was Rooks’ last home match. Sophomore fell to Kansas’ Kris Sell, play ing a match that was clos er than the 6- 2, 6-3 score. Junior Monica San Miguel lost to Kansas’ Christine Sues 6-4, 6-2. In doubles play, the Aggies won two of their three matches. The Aggie pairing of Marcial and Scott lost by a score of 8-3. Partners Rebolledo and San Miguel played tough to get their win of 8-5. The pairing of Rooks and Dingwall, almost unstoppable lately, were down six games to three. In an amazing come-from- behind victory, they tied the match 8-8, and won easily in tie breaker play. Rooks said it felt great to win the doubles match after being down, especially being her last time to play at home. “I was really scared,” Rooks said. “I really wanted to win, and I said before the match that I was going to win. When we were down I knew I just needed to hang in there.” Next up for the Aggies is Big 12 tournament play. They expect to meet up with Missouri for their next match. Tennis Continued from Page 5 Playing the last match ever at the Omar Smith Tennis Center, the Aggies were looking to go out with a bang Saturday night against the Jayhawks. In sweeping Kansas, 7-0, A&M did just that, and notched its perfect home record this sea son to 10-0. In doubles play, the Aggie duo of Caradima and Horan won their match, 8- 6. De Mesa and Hubbell then won their match, 9-8 (7-5), to clinch the doubles point for A&M. Tori, who is the Aggies’ lone senior, was playing in his last home match as an Aggie. For the occasion, he moved up to No. 1 singles from his usual No. 2, and rolled to victory, 6-0, 6-2. After winning the final point, the largest crowd of the season at the Omar Smith Tennis Center showed its appreciation with a raucous standing ovation. Tori, who notched his record on the season to 21-9, said the night was an emotion al one for him. “I was excited to be playing here, nervous because I really wanted to win, and sad because I knew it would be my last home match,” Tori said. “I never wanted it to be over.” Rounding out the Aggies’ sweep of the Jayhawks were de Mesa (6-2, 6-1), freshman Shuon Madden (7-5, 6-3), Horan (5-7, 6-3, 6-2), Caradima (6-4, 2- 6, 7-6) and Hubbell (7-5, 6-2).
