o The Battalion PINION Tuesday • October 7 Bible teaches intolerance of gays Mail Call Although Mail Call letters are edited for length, style and accura cy, opinion columns apparently have the luxury of being printed regardless of accuracy. In his Oct. 6 column, Michael Schaub was repeatedly inaccurate as he tried to reconcile Christianity and homosexuality. Perhaps a little study on his part would have re vealed that in fact the Bible does preach intolerance of homosexu ality. In Numbers 20:13, God tells his people, “If a man lies with another man as one lies with a woman, both have done what is de testable.” It is in fact a sin to be ho mosexual. God cannot tolerate sin, and as “imitators of God,” Christians should not tolerate sin either. As Christians we are to “love our neighbors as ourselves” but still “have no fellowship with the un fruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” God wants the best for his chil dren, but cannot look upon sin. Schaub’s quote of Bobby Griffith correctly assessed the problem. Bobby felt estranged from God be cause he had “chosen sin over righteousness.” In his choice to pursue homo sexuality, he chose to separate himself from God. Christianity is a religion of love. “God demonstrated his love for us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.” However, part of God’s love for us includes his desire that we do his will. Bobby’s mother was right to pray for the conversion son. As Christians we should ti the opportunity presented by “Coming Out” week to prayfol spiritual awakening and convej sion among homosexuals. "Co: ing Out” week shouldn’t beal coming out of the closet, but ing out of sin. Aaron Hei Class .
