Safety Continued from Page 1 Wawzyniak said GSC will suggest reducing the speed limit, changing stoplight cycles and adding more overpasses for pedestrians and cyclists. The University supported a previous proposal to make the road a school zone, which would reduce the speed limit to 20 mph during certain times. However, the request was denied because the law does not apply to higher educational facilities. Improving safety around the railroad tracks along Wellborn Road is another concern. Jessica Franklin, a staff assistant for the Texas Transportation Institute rail research center, will make railroad safety presentations — Operation Lifesaver — to student groups on campus. Operation Lifesaver is a program emphasizing common sense, she said. “If you see a train coming, don’t cross in front of it,” Franklin said. “It’s illegal and you could get a ticket.” Franklin said people are sometimes in a hurry and do not think before crossing the railroad tracks. “Your foot could get caught under a rail and a train might come,” Franklin said. She said TTI plans to present the Operation Lifesaver program to all of the student organiza tions on campus. “We want to teach students how to give the presentation,” Franklin said. “That way they could pass it on at Fish Camp and freshmen could learn to give the presentation to other in coming students.” Shanna Collie, GSC graduate life officer and a toxicology graduate student, said a committee is researching the use of Wellborn Road. “Right now, we are collecting facts about the use of the road, like how many people cross and what speeds people drive,” Collie said. The committee will present its findings to the GSC for consideration at its meeting Tuesday, Nov. 5. other power plain irs a day, seven 65 days a year, T>y Kazmir ations supervisor 0 *7 & ^ 'TtacCb COMPLETE NAIL SERVICE Acrylic Nails • Gel Nails • Fiberglass • Sculpture Nails Nail Art Design • Airbrush Design • Manicures & Pedicures • American, French Manicures • Etc 3601 EAST 29TH ST. • BRYAN, TX. 77802 for Appointment (409) 846-0740 Hours: Mon-Sat 9:00am-8:00pm petilive, welhuntheefJjik.jpj \/y e | come 5 un 12:00am-6:00pm Sfrecuzl " Jute Fdl-ms $13 ' i bi FREE File down with any service broken nail FREE Now 25% off!! 1996-97 All-University Calendar i nti on Students At the Texas A&M Bookstore -'•' A , 7 •- •. -v::' . • Wednesday & Thursday, November 13 & 14, 1996 COLLEGE STATION HILTON BALLROOM GRAND BALLROOM - 6:20 P.M. r oming ent those of Tsity. ■ We request notification xir abilities.
