The counseling sessions are offered by the Texas A&M Campus Ministry Association. Sessions will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The Rev. Dr. Frank Yates, CMA president, said students can go to the chapel to discuss various topics. “We won’t pretend to be psy chiatrists,” Yates said. “It’s an open house with campus minis ters who will be able to discuss anything from theological issues to personal problems. “If we can’t help the student, or if the student’s situation is more serious, we can refer them to Student Counseling Services.” Students are encouraged, Yates said, to stop by and talk to the reli gious leaders even though they may not be of the same faith. The Rev. David Rowland, min ister of The First Baptist Church, said students should feel com fortable approaching the reli gious leaders. “Basically, we will provide stu dents with someone to talk to,” Rowland said. “We will refer stu dents to their own minister or their own church if we need to. We’re not going to try to pull them into our church.” A sign-up sheet will be avail able at the Chapel for students who would like to see when a representative from their min istry will be available. The Rev. Mark Crawford, a “It's an open house with campus minis ters who will be able to discuss anything from theological issues to personal problems.” Rev. Dr. Frank Yates CMA president minister for the Episcopal Student Center, said students should feel comfortable met] with the religious leaders. “It’s going to be much life ulty office hours,” Crawford “Students are free to comeim out. If somebody wants to by and talk in private, well the door.” Rabbi Peter Tarlow of Hillel Foundation, said clt members have worked i together to organize the sen “In case someone wants to cuss religion with their own gyman, we can facilitate them in touch with the they want to see," Tarlo “It’s really been good how all various clergy members worked together.” Students interested inti to a clergyman may call Faiths Chapel at 862-4527 m Troops, families prepare for deployment FORT HOOD (AP) — Political maneuvering that apparently delayed their departure had little effect on thousands of 1st Cavalry Division troops Sunday as they prepared to deploy to the Middle East. Kuwait on Sunday temporarily withheld permission for additional troops to take part in ongoing military exercises sparked by renewed threats from Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein toward Kuwait. Military officials said they expected permis sion to deploy would come from Kuwaiti lead ers, but the delay did not keep at least 3,000 troops from finishing up final arrangements. "They are all eager to do what they have come to the 1st Cavalry to do,” said Col. Eric Olson, who commands the division’s 3rd Battalion. The battalion was alerted to prepare for deployment on Friday. “Through training and showing that we can deploy — and that once deployed we can con duct operations in preparation of a combat nature — there will be a deterrent effect” on the Iraqis, Olson told reporters. “There’s always a measure of confusion at first.” Most of the troops spent Sunday double checking supplies, preparing equipment and spending time with their families. “We’re just waiting around to get the word,” said Sgt. Peter Nieneyer, a gunner on the crew “The thing you always have to consider is that the wives and kids are taken care of.” Capt. Scott Jackson 1st Battalion of a Bradley fighting vehicle. “I’m anxious to go. I have a problem with telling my wife good bye three or four times.” Capt. Scott Jackson, of the 1st Battalion, said preparing family members is important to soldiers. He said having things at home in order helps them to concentrate on their train ing work in the field. “The thing you always have to consider the wives and kids are taken care of,” he sal Two wives, Lisa Castro and Erin Aiello, their husbands have been deployed M But it’s never easy, especially with childa they said. “When we were told to prepare Friday it OK until I started thinking about the Castro said of her 4-year-old and near-2-; old. “They are going to miss their father.’’ Aiello said not having children makes experience a little different. But she said the families left behind rally together and extra support to those families who are g( through their first overseas deployment. “We spend a lot more time calling them organizing things to keep them busy,’’shesai Castrol and Aiello were part of a ering of families and soldiers who were Sunday on the possible deployment. Olson told a packed auditorium onthebi that the mission would be to train and sho force in the region. “It is wise for us to be prepared," he sail urging family members to stay close to eac other and to remain confident in theirsoldiea ght tur i compl ► What’s Up?
