The center will help school dis tricts implement the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills curriculum for social studies. The center will provide strate gies for continued professional development for Texas social stud ies teachers. Corps to enforce no running policy A revision in a Corps of Cadets policy says that from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, freshmen cadets do not run on the Clarification About 22,000 students attended Sunday’s MSC Open House, the MSC public relations committee reported in a Council meeting Monday night. Her plea came less than a month before she was to be retried on charges she hired a hit man to kill the mother of her daughter’s cheer leading rival. “Everyone was in concurrence that if she were willing to do this, it would be the best for everybody," explained Jack Zimmermann, Holloway’s attorney. “It’s obviously not the best for her, because it involves being in custody.” Holloway could be eligible for pro bation in six months, her lawyers say. Prosecutors say they will fight such a request. The 42-year-old woman was convicted in September 1991 of solicitation of murder and sen tenced to 15 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. ► Nation Clinton promises safer plane travel WASHINGTON (AP) — Promising safer skies, President Clinton issued orders Monday to tighten airport security and challenged Congress to support a $1.1 billion anti-terrorism crackdown. “Terrorists don’t wait,” the presi dent said. “And neither should we.” Clinton unveiled the proposals in an Oval Office ceremony designed to reassure jittery Americans after last year’s Oklahoma City bombing and the explosion of TWA Flight 800 less than two months ago. “As a result of these steps, not only will the American people feel safer, they will be safer,” the president declared of the proposal that comes just two months before the election. The White House Commission on Aviation Safety and Security, which unveiled its recommendations last week, formally presented them to the president Monday.
